Jags sign S Prioleau Jacksonville, FL (Sports Network) - The Jacksonville Jaguars announced
Wednesday that they have signed unrestricted free agent safety Pierson
Prioleau, and have also waived quarterback Lester Ricard.
The 5-foot-11, 188-pound Prioleau is entering his 10th NFL season, having
spent the last three seasons with the Washington Redskins. In 2007 he made 38
tackles in 15 games, including four starts, while also accumulating 16 special

Mike Peterson is expected to return to his starting post at middle linebacker this season following a wrist injury that caused him to miss the 2007 playoffs, and he commented on the new season, according to Jaguars.com. Peterson said, "This is the NFL. You have to prove yourself every time you strap up. Ive never been handed anything. Competing for a job, reassuring the coaches. I dont have a problem with that at all. The ball is not in my court (for a potential new contract). Im trying to do everything the right way. Im trying to stay positive. Hopefully, theyll step up to the plate and take care of the deal. Anybody associated with me knows I want to be here. Theres going to be a time and a place that business is going to take precedent over my football family. It is a business. Im a grown man. I can handle it either way. Ive seen it all in this league. I can swallow either pill. I know I have a lot of football left in me. My approach is Im going to handle my business on the field. I dont want to get into the whining thing."
Pierson Prioleau, formerly of the Redskins, has agreed to terms with Jacksonville, according to the Washington Post. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The Jacksonville Jaguars selected Quentin Groves with the 52nd pick in the draft. The All-SEC first teamer experienced some off-field issues that stunted his draft stock, but few defensive end/outside linebacker prospects have as much raw speed, quickness, and power as Groves.
