Chris Baker, TE Wednesday 5/7, 12:01 PM CT
Disgruntled tight end Chris Baker boycotted the New York Jets voluntary practices in May but is expected to show up for mandatory minicamp in June, according to USA Today. Baker, unhappy with his salary, is coming off a career-high 41 receptions in 2007, and he’s scheduled to make $683,500 this season and $2.1 million next season. "I'm angry about the fact that they said, 'We're going to do something for you,' and nothing's being done," Baker said. "It doesn't make any sense. I've been here six years and I've always done what they've asked me to do." The Jets moved up in the first round to select Purdue rookie tight end Dustin Keller, and signed veteran Bubba Franks during the offseason.
Hank Poteat, DB Tuesday 5/6, 3:31 PM CT
The New York Jets have re-signed unrestricted free agent cornerback Hank Poteat, according to NewYorkJets.com.
Dustin Keller, TE Tuesday 5/6, 10:07 AM CT
The New York Jets say the drafting of Purdue tight end Dustin Keller in the first round wasn't a message to Chris Baker, the incumbent at the position who is unhappy with his current contract, according to the Sporting News. Keller has a somewhat different skill set than Baker, who blocks well and has great hands but isn't much of a downfield threat. Keller, a converted wide receiver, could be a seam-splitter who will be quite effective against cover-2 defenses, but he needs major work on his blocking to be an every-down player in the future.
Hank Poteat, DB Friday 5/2, 9:45 AM CT
The New York Jets are close to re-signing veteran free-agent cornerback Hank Poteat, according to the New York Daily News.
