Raiders release S Wilson Alameda, CA (Sports Network) - The Oakland Raiders released safety
Gibril Wilson on Friday, a year after signing him to a lucrative contract.
Wilson signed a six-year contract in late February 2008, worth up to $39
million. But after a 2008 season in which the 27-year-old safety played in all
16 games, posting two interceptions, 1 1/2 sacks and a career-high 128
tackles, Wilson was cut.
The move comes a day after the Raiders made two big signings. Oakland inked

Chaz Schilens was back practicing on Wednesday, according to the Oakland Tribune. He was limited as he continues to recover from a broken leg and soreness in his foot, but he could suit up in Week 10 for the Raiders.
Darren McFadden returned to practice on Wednesday. He has been nursing his surgically repaired knee for most of the season and anticipates playing in Week 10 after the Raiders return from their bye week.
In the absence of regular starter Greg Ellis last Sunday, right defensive end Matt Shaughnessy had a breakout game against the Chargers, according to the Contra Costa Times. He finished the day with a sack, five tackles and two tackles for loss.
