Donnie Avery, WR Thursday 5/15, 10:14 AM CT
Torry Holt has reportedly been shouting at rookie Donnie Avery (Houston), according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Holt said, "Right now, I don't have any impressions of Donnie Avery. Hopefully, during training camp he'll show me something." Holt is simply trying to push him to succeed and quarterback Marc Bulger is pleased with Avery's speed and what he can bring to the Rams' aerial attack. Bulger said, "We can put him inside against some nickel defensive backs or some linebackers. But at the same time, he's going to have to, do some other things, because if they know every time he comes in that we're going deep, they have answers for that."
Oshiomogho Atogwe, S Monday 5/12, 11:22 AM CT
Oshiomogho Atogwe was on the sideline for Sunday's final minicamp practice due to a hamstring injury, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. He sat out Saturday as well.
Randy McMichael, TE Monday 5/12, 10:58 AM CT
Randy McMichael is pleased to have new OC Al Saunders in St. Louis, as Saunders has directed a tight end to the Pro Bowl for eight straight seasons, according to the Belleville News-Democrat. McMichael said, "As soon as I found what was going on and they had hired Coach Saunders, I got really excited. This is the kind of offense that I have dreamed my whole career of playing in. I'm having a good time right now, and hopefully I can extend my role and keep doing the things I like to do."
Reche Caldwell, WR Monday 5/12, 10:49 AM CT
Reche Caldwell has stood out at the Rams' minicamp, according to the Belleville News-Democrat. The former member of the Redskins displayed solid hands and a good knowledge of the Rams' new offense. Coach Scott Linehan said, "You can see that he has background with the system that we are running now, playing for offensive coordinator Al Saunders last year. He has done a nice job. There are going to be times when we spell a receiver, or we put a guy in for a play here and there, or you go in with three wide receivers and sometimes you are going to move the other receivers around and you have to know basically two or three positions. His background in the offense is really going to help him."
Chris Draft, LB Monday 5/12, 10:42 AM CT
Chris Draft is working as the Rams' starting strong-side linebacker during minicamp, according to the Belleville News-Democrat. Coach Scott Linehan said that Draft will battle Quinton Culberson for the starting job and added, "It's going to be a good battle, and it will be one to keep an eye on. Either way I feel great about the fact that we have two guys who we feel really comfortable with. Chris has the experience and the versatility to play all three positions, and now he is in the position where he can get back into a starting role, which I know he likes. The thing about Quinton is that he gets around the ball a whole lot. He had one start for us last year in the last game of the year, and I think he led the defense in tackles that day. That is hard to do in the NFL."
Adam Carriker, DT Sunday 5/11, 11:13 AM CT
Defensive tackle Adam Carriker was a partial participant in Saturday's mini-camp drills. He is recovering from a torn labrum in his shoulder. "It's amazing... Generally with an injury like that, it's four to six months before you can do anything. He'd probably be able to play a game if we had to," head coach Scott Linehan explains to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. "I think a lot of it has to do with work ethic and want-to. That guy has been busting his butt since the end of the season, and it's really paid off."
Steven Jackson, RB Sunday 5/11, 11:02 AM CT
Steven Jackson would prefer to stay in St. Louis, although he expects the Rams to pay adequately for his services. "This is definitely where I want to be," Jackson tells the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Jackson is in the final year of his rookie contract, and he adds, "Well, we all know what happens in a contract year: you ball out. So, I expect to."
Torry Holt, WR Sunday 5/11, 10:52 AM CT
Torry Holt cleared the air about his contract and future on Saturday. "I have this year and next year, and hopefully I can finish those years out," Holt explains to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. "Then, I'll see where I'm at. I'll see where I'm at physically. I'll see where I'm at emotionally, financially. And then, if they would like to do something here, I'll consider it. If not, then I'll have the option to go and explore and give my services somewhere else. So if that happens, Carolina will definitely be the first choice." Holt recently talked about his wishes to play alongside his brother Terrence, who plays for the Panthers. The stud receiver also says that his left knee feels much better this offseason.
Adam Carriker, DT Friday 5/9, 7:55 AM CT
Defensive tackle Adam Carriker is not participating in the Rams' OTA, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Carriker sustained a torn labrum December 30 at Arizona in the final game of the season. But the Rams' first-round draft pick of 2006 has made quick progress, coach Scott Linehan stated. Linehan added, "He's probably coming along faster than anybody. I guess youth is an advantage. He's worked so hard to get himself back and could probably do a lot of things at minicamp. But it's too early to get him involved in anything other than the walk-throughs and individual work."
