Joe Thornton missed the third period on Thursday night due to a sore groin, but the injury is believed to be rather innocuous, according to The Mercury News. "His groin has been bothering him a little bit and was sore tonight so we didn't think it would be wise to play him in the third," HC Todd McLellan said. Tonight, San Jose managed just 20 total shots on goal in a 2-1 OT loss to the Stars, and while it is difficult to find a place for blame in their shortcomings, center Joe Thornton may be the man to target.

Joe Thornton had three assists as the Sharks beat the Predators to earn HC Ron Wilson the 500th victory of his career. Thornton, who leads the NHL with 50 assists on the year, was injured late in the game when he fell hard while being slashed, but he appeared to be alright on the bench as time expired in the game.
