Zdeno Chara injured his left foot in the first period of Wednesday's preseason game against the Canadiens when he blocked a Sheldon Souray slap shot, according to the Boston Globe. Chara finished the period, but he didn't return to the ice for the second or third periods. The extent of his injury isn't known, but he will be evaluated today.

The Bruins signed Zdeno Chara to a five-year contract on Saturday, according to the AP. The financial terms of the contract were not disclosed.

The Senators don't appear prepared to offer Zdeno Chara the $7 million a year it likely will take to keep him in Ottawa, according to the Ottawa Sun. Chara can become an unrestricted free agent Saturday and would quickly become a highly coveted player.
