Jason Blake will be a healthy scratch Thursday night as Toronto visits Boston, according to Sun Media. "I'm not going to compromise how I coach the team for the wrong reasons," coach Ron Wilson said this morning when explaining Blake's benching. “He’s not scoring, he’s not back checking, he's not doing this or not doing that (so) we’re going to keep him in the lineup until he catches a lucky break? That's not how I coach."

Jason Blake scored only 15 goals last season in his first year in Toronto as he battled cancer, but he believes things are looking up this year, according to the Toronto Star. "Last year was a disaster for me on the ice and personally," said Blake. "I was actually at the doctor last week. Everything is definitely managed. I've put it behind me. It's good to be back and I'm ready to play. My mind is totally clear."

Jason Blake won the Bill Masterson award on Thursday night awarded to the player who show perseverance, sportsmanship and a dedication to hockey, according to TSN. "I've been so lucky in life to play in the NHL, have three beautiful kids and be married to a wonderful woman," said Blake. "I get to play the game I love at the highest level and I get to continue doing it as long as some team wants me."

Jason Blake is a finalist for the Bill Masterson Memorial Trophy, the AP reports. The award honors the NHL player who best exemplifies the qualities of perseverance, sportsmanship, and dedication. Blake was diagnosed in October with chronic myelogenous leukemia but still played in all 82 games.

Jason Blake scored a goal and added an assist on Friday night as did Antron Stralman and Matt Stajan for the Leafs. Blake has only 14 goals on the year, this after scoring 40 last season and at least 22 in 4-straight seasons, in a disappointing first year with the Leafs. Blake has picked up his play of late however with 17 points in his last 24 games.
