Rick DiPietro underwent surgery on his knee four weeks ago and on Tuesday he skated at practice for the second day in a row, according to Newsday. "I felt good. It's been a long time," DiPietro said. "I've been looking forward to getting back."

The AP reports that goalie Rick DiPietro will see a doctor on Monday for an undisclosed injury and is questionable to play that night against the New York Rangers. He was injured Saturday night during the first period of the Islanders’ 4-3 home loss to the Carolina Hurricanes. He allowed two goals on 12 shots and didn’t return after the intermission.

Rick DiPietro was removed from last night's game after the first period with an undisclosed injury, but at the moment it appears as though the mystery ailment isn't serious, according to Newsday. "He's day-to-day," coach Scott Gordon said. Asked the cause, the coach said, "We can't talk about injuries. That's what I'm stuck with. It wasn't his play. We'll know more [today]." When asked about his injury, DiPietro said "I'd rather not talk about it. It's a bit of a distraction. When we figure out what's going on, you guys will know." Asked again if the injury was the reason he was pulled, DiPietro repeated, "Yeah. I don't know what to tell you."

DiPietro had left hip surgery following the 2007 playoffs.

Whether Ricky goes in or Dubielewicz goes in, we feel quite confident.” We would figure that DiPietro will be able to convince his coach to let him play on Thursday, but only time will tell. With a somewhat shoddy defense around him this year, DiPietro has struggled to a 2.70 GAA and .905 SV%.
