Mike Comrie's injured hip has limited him to rehab work though it is not believed to be serious, according to Newsday. "He's doing rehab to strengthen it," HC Scott Gordon said. "He's taking anti-inflammatories. It's not anything that's severe."

Mike Comrie missed Monday's practice to get his surgically repaired hip re-evaluated, according to the NY Post. Coach Scott Gordon said, "He's at the point where he'll get it checked and make sure it's going where it's supposed to be going, find out if he's making the progress he's supposed to."

Mike Comrie indicated that he underwent off-season hip surgery, according to Newsday. He said, "My hip had been bugging me for two or three months. It's one of those injuries that was nagging me for a couple of years, but it got to a point where it started to hinder my play. I started second-guessing myself if I could get to the puck as quick as I normally can."

An NHL source tells Newsday that Islanders GM Garth Snow is deciding between three finalists in his search to find a new coach and could announce his decision early this week, according to ESPN.com. After considering at least eight candidates and having contacted others, Snow's finalists are former Thrashers and Avalanche coach Bob Hartley, former Maple Leafs and Hurricanes coach Paul Maurice and Providence Bruins [AHL] coach Scott Gordon.

Ted Nolan will not return as the head coach of the Islanders. There were "philosophical differences" with general manager Garth Snow, the AP reports. The Islanders made it to the playoffs after the 2006-07 season but went 35-38-9 in the most recent campaign. "It wasn’t going to work if two people aren’t on the same page. That’s why the meeting was healthy because we both realized that there were differences in philosophy," Snow explains.

Mike Comrie scored two goals on Thursday night to reach the 20-goal level for the third straight season. Comrie's first year on the Island hasn't gone exactly as expected but he has still scored at a fairly consistent clip that has produced 47 points in 65 games. He has also tossed in a surprising 79 PIM marking him as a solid third center on any squad.

The Islanders signed Mike Comrie to a one-year extension Tuesday, which will keep the forward with the team through the 2008-09 season. Financial terms weren't available. Comrie leads the Isles with 45 points this year. He was mentioned in some trades rumors, but it appears as though he'll stay put.
