Alexei Ponikarovsky has been struggling through training camp and has fallen out of favor with the staff due to inconsistent play, according to the Toronto Sun. Coach Ron Wilson said, "I know he can play better."

TSN.ca reported Monday afternoon that Alexei Ponikarovsky skated with the team in an afternoon practice and is considered a game-time decision for Tuesday's game against New Jersey.

Alexei Ponikarovsky's speedy recovery from a shoulder injury could land him back in the Maple Leafs lineup sooner than first predicted, according to the Toronto Sun. Ponikarovsky expects to receive medical clearance today to begin full-contact drills at the Leafs' practice at Lakeshore Lions Arena. Should he get the green light, he hopes to suit up for the Leafs when they take on the Buffalo Sabres at the HSBC Arena tomorrow night. Ponikarovsky was injured when he was smeared against the unforgiving Air Canada Centre boards by Washington defenceman Steve Eminger.

The Maple Leafs lost left winger Alexei Ponikarovsky for at least six weeks when he hurt his right shoulder during the first period of Wednesday night's game, according to the AP. Darryl Boyce was recalled from Toronto of the AHL to take Ponikarovsky's place on the roster.
