Ilya Kovalchuk's 15th goal of the year was the game winner in Tuesday's overtime win over Florida. Kovalchuk also picked up a couple of assists, giving him a 15-10-25 start through 18 games.

Ilya Kovalchuk hopes to play on Friday for the first time since leaving Tuesday’s game with a back injury. “Yesterday I didn’t even feel good at all,” Kovalchuk told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution on Thursday. “It was a little bit scary actually; I couldn’t even go to the bathroom. Those doctors and trainers are unbelievable. I think I’m going to be ready tomorrow.”

Ilya Kovalchuk left Tuesday's game with back spasms, shoartly after scoring his 13th goal of the year, the Thrashers' official site reports. He'll have an MRI done on Wednesday just to be safe but he's hoping to play in Friday's contest in Florida.

Ilya Kovalchuk had his second consecutive hat trick Saturday, and added an assist, as the Thrashers rallied past Tampa Bay. One of the goals came shorthanded.

Ilya Kovalchuk put on a late show in Thursday's loss at Ottawa, scoring three goals in the final period. It was too little, too late for the Thrashers, however, as they trailed 5-0 into the period and wound up losing, 6-4. Kovalchuk now has nine goals on the season.

The Thrashers Ilya Kovalchuk scored an unassisted goal seven minutes into the first period on Wednesday night, but went to the locker room a short time later after taking a hit on his shoulder. The injury was not serious enough to keep Kovalchuk off the ice as he returned for the start of the second frame.

Ilya Kovalchuk was benched for the third period of Wednesday's loss to Washington, as head coach Bob Hartley wasn't happy about Kovalchuk's sloppy play. Kovalchuk did score the lone Atlanta goal, back in the first period.
