Michael Rupp (back) did not participate in practice on Thursday, but he plans to play on Friday night. "I'm trying to give myself the best chance for (tonight)," Rupp tells the Newark Star-Ledger. "I'm just a little locked up." The center has one assist in the series against the Rangers.

The Devils acquired Michael Rupp on Monday, according to the New York Post. Rupp, who scored the game-winning goal in the Stanely Cup finals for New Jersey in 2003, will make the minimum salary.

The Columbus Dispatch reports that Michael Rupp will soon undergo a procedure to correct an irregular heartbeat first diagnosed in 2000. Rupp's heart fluttered for over an hour last week. "Ive had this condition my whole life," Rupp said. "Its completely normal. A lot of athletes have it, and a lot of regular people have it, too, and dont even know about it. I need a procedure done that will rid me of it forever. Ill have the procedure and thatll be the end of it."
