He said, "I never had a problem going out there too late but I have had problems going too early or working too hard when I'm not supposed to. I didn't want to go out, tweak it again and go back to square one."

Tuomo Ruutu has agreed to a one-year deal to remain with the Hurricanes, according to the Miami Herald. He will make $2.25 million next season. GM Jim Rutherford said, "We are happy he'll be back with our team and we hope that he can stay healthy and return to the 20-goal plateau he reached during his rookie season."

Tuomo Ruutu was clipped by a stick above his eye and on his nose during his debut with the Hurricanes on Tuesday, according to the Raleigh News & Observer. He required 40 stitches to close the gash. Nonetheless, he's a hockey player, so he suited up to play Thursday with an eye shield.

So far, so good, for the Hurricanes after acquiring Tuomo Ruutu from the Blackhawks on Tuesday. He joined the team about 15 minutes before their evening game against the Devils, whom they beat 2-1 in overtime. Not only is Ruutu 1-0 as a Hurricane, but he chipped in an assist. Maybe he can finally live up to the hype of being the ninth overall pick in 2001 in his new digs, because it certainly never happened in Chi-town.

The Hurricanes acquired Tuomo Ruutu from the Blackhawks Tuesday in exchange for Andrew Ladd. Ruutu has experience a dropoff in production this year, totaling just six goals after last year's 17-goal effort.
