Al MacInnis will announce his retirement from the NHL on Friday, according to TSN.ca. MacInnis suffered a serious eye injury during a game early in the 2003-04 season and doctors discovered a partially detached retina in the same eye that MacInnis injured in January 2001 when he was struck in the eye by a stick.

Al MacInnis had a conversation with Blues GM Larry Pleau on Monday, but the meeting didn't result in an announcement about MacInnis' future, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. MacInnis has not played since October 2003, when he had surgery on both eyes to repair a detached retina and overall blurry vision. He has indicated that he would only play for the Blues if he did return, but whether a comeback is something that is still in his mind remains unknown.

Al MacInnis has increased his conditioning and will likely soon have his eyesight back, but he still is unsure when, or if, he will return to action, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. "At this point, I don\'t know," MacInnis said.
