Ryan Whitney was walking without the aid of crutches at the start of training camp in Pittsburgh, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. He underwent surgery to correct his left foot August 15, and believes his recovery is coming along favorably. He added, "I saw the doctor last week, and he said the X-rays look fantastic and the scars are healing nicely. I see him again in 2 1/2 weeks. Then you can really start strengthening it and do more weight-bearing exercises."

Penguins defenseman Ryan Whitney had surgery to correct an undisclosed chronic foot problem, according to the AP. The surgery will keep him off the ice for three to five months.

Ryan Whitney had a goal and two assists on Thursday night in the Penguins victory over the Habs. Whitney now has 12 goals on the year, just two less than last season, but he has just 20 assists a year after totaling 45. Even worse, Whitney's production with the man advantage has really suffered as he has only 17 PP points this year a year after totaling 33.
