Dion Phaneuf is the cover boy for the video game put out by EA Sports called NHL '09, according to Slam Sports. "They keep getting more and more real. The technology that goes into it -- being hooked up to all these motion sensors when you're shooting the puck and hitting and everything, and then you're on a screen in an animated form. It's pretty cool to see the technology behind it all."

Dion Phaneuf was a +3 with three shots on goal in the Flames final regular season tilt. Dion finishes the year with some mind boggling numbers including 17 goals, 60 points, 33 PP points and 182 PIM. There is no finer all-around fantasy performer from the blueline in the NHL, period.

Dion Phaneuf had three assists on Monday night to give him a new career-high of 35. Phaneuf is also one point off his career best mark of 50 points. Throw in his power-play production (28 PP points) and PIM (163) total, and you have one of the best all-around performers in the fantasy game.

Dion Phaneuf had a Gordie Howe hat-trick on Saturday night with a goal, and assist, and a fight. Phaneuf continues to grow as a player, a scary thought considering how good he already is. He already has a career-high with 108 PIM, and with 37 points he is well on pace to match the point totals he has posted in his first two seasons (49 and 50).

Dion Phaneuf signed a $39-million, six-year contract extension with the Flames on Wednesday that will earn him an average of $6.5 million during the deal, according to the CP. "It remains very important for us to lock up our key young players," Flames GM Darryl Sutter said in a release. "Our goal with Dion was to provide an arrangement that will allow him to take his game to the next level." The hard-hitting Phaneuf has 35 points (nine goals, 26 assists) in 53 games this season and is widely regarded as the NHL's best young defenseman.

Dion Phaneuf and the Flames will continue to discuss a contract extension on Monday, according to the Calgary Herald. "We're working on it now and we're having discussions and they're ongoing," said Don Meehan, Phaneuf's agent, from Sweden on Saturday. "We're continuing to work at it." Details about what the contract might end up being are limited, as rumors run the gamut from three to six years. But it's clear the Flames want to lock up their young defenseman, who has 33 points in 52 games this season, for the foreseeable future.
