Franzen has been out of action since October 25 due to a sprained left MCL. When Babcock was asked how Franzen looked in practice Friday, he replied, "Like he should be playing. I'm pretty sure if we were in the playoffs Mule would be playing. He'll be ready to go Tuesday."

He will have an MRI today. "Obviously he's hurt," coach Mike Babcock said. "He left the ice and took his stuff right off. Whether it's hyperextended or if there's ligament damage, we'll know later. The Red Wings have determined Johan Franzen's head injury, according to the Detroit News. It was a subdural hematoma that forced Johan Franzen out of the Red Wings' lineup for six playoff contests. Subdural hematoma can be caused by minor accidents to the head, major trauma, or the spontaneous bursting of a blood vessel in the brain. GM Ken Holland said, "It's not going to affect him long term. Basically, in effect, it's a bruise. It's like when you get hit on a part of your body."

Franzen hasn't played, or even skated, since May 8 because of concussion-like symptoms, but was able to skate lightly at Joe Louis Arena on Wednesday. GM Ken Holland said it was a positive step, but added that Franzen is "highly doubtful" for Game 1. Holland also remarked, "He's feeling better, but he hasn't practiced in nearly two weeks. Johan Franzen is still awaiting his test results as there is no word on what is causing his headaches, according to the Detroit News. He was forced his miss his second straight game last night due to concussion-like symptoms. He was scheduled to undergo a wide arsenal of tests at Detroit Medical Center earlier in the day on Monday. Ken Holland stated, "He came to the rink the day after Game 1 against Dallas and said he's been having headaches every day for a week or 10 days or whatever it was. And we just decided, 'OK, that's not normal.' It's not to the point where it's major symptoms, but it's just constant headaches. Sometimes he takes a pill and it goes away, but then it comes back. I don't want to start speculating with you. And that's why we're saying 'concussion-like symptoms' right now, because we really don't know what's going on."

Franzen is now up to 26 goals and 36 points in 69 games on the year, and he was at his best in March with 18 points, 14 of them coming on goals. Oh yeah, six of those goals went for game-winners as well. The Wings are getting healthy just in time for the playoffs, so you might want to consider stocking your playoff roster with players who wear the wheel on their jersey.
