Nicklas Backstrom was named one of three finalists for the Calder Trophy awarded to the league's top rookie, this according to NHL.com.

Nicklas Backstrom entered Friday with 12 goals on the year, but he left it with 14 after scoring two goals in the Caps victory over the Thrashers. Backstrom now has 64 points in 76 games on the year as he continues to vie for the NHL scoring lead amongst rookies.

Nicklas Backstrom, the league's leading scorer amongst freshman, scored a goal and added an assist on Wednesday night. Since December first, Backstrom has been a consistent point producer with 44 points in 42 games for the Caps.
