Sergei Fedorov played a regular shift on defense Wednesday because the Blue Jackets are short at the position right now, the AP reports. Fedorov has long been respected for his defensive play; he won the Frank Selke Trophy as the league's best defensive forward twice while with Detroit.

Sergei Fedorov was moved from center to left wing in the Blue Jackets' last game on Tuesday because his injred left elbow prevents him from taking faceoffs, according to the Columbus Dispatch. Fedorov has no goals and two assists in the last eight games. It's not clear when he might return to center.

The Blue Jackets activated Sergei Fedorov off injured reserve for their game at Chicago on Tuesday night, according to the AP. He missed the last three games with an elbow injury. Fedorov has 13 goals and 15 assists in 36 games this season.
