''Darren has earned this opportunity,'' said Red Wings General Manager Ken Holland. GM Ken Holland said Wednesday the team is "leaning toward" offering Darren McCarty a contract, according to the Canadian Press. McCarty played in Detroit from 1993-2004. He has been playing in the AHL for Grand Rapids this year. Considering that McCarty failed to register a point in 32 games for Calgary last year, you don't need to be in a rush to pick him up.
