Defenseman Darryl Sydor played six minutes and 31 seconds at left wing on Saturday night. Head coach Michel Therrien informs the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review that he needed to use the veteran at the point on the second power-play unit. Defensemen Brooks Orpik and Ryan Whitney also saw time at left wing last season.

The Penguins are getting desperate. They will unleash defenseman Darryl Sydor on the Red Wings in Game 3, the Canadian Press reports. Sydor, 36, has yet to appear in the playoffs, but he will replace rookie Kristopher Letang. "Darryl had a great season for us, but we have a lot of depth on defense and our defense was also doing really well," coach Michel Therrien explains. "Its a different story now."
