Ryan Smyth sat Sunday as expected but might have a chance to play Thursday. He's dealing with a sore neck.

Ryan Smyth missed his second straight game on Friday due to a sore neck. Coach Joel Quenneville said Smyth was "very doubtful" for Sunday's contest, according to the Rocky Mountain News. It sounds like we won't see Smyth back in action until at least sometime next week.

The Avs have signed Ryan Smyth to a five-year, $31 million contract, according to the Rocky Mountain News. Smyth was one of the top free agents out there, so the Avs have to be happy about this one. He scored 68 points in 71 games last year and should be able to stay at that level in Colorado.

The Islanders acquired Ryan Smyth from the Oilers Tuesday in exchange for prospects Robert Nilsson and Ryan O'Marra and a first-round draft pick in 2007, according to the Canadian Press. Smyth has 31 goals and 53 points in 53 games this season.
