Brendan Witt has signed a two-year extension with the Islanders worth $6 million, according to the AP. Team GM Garth Snow said, "Over the last two seasons, Brendan has been a warrior for us on the ice and a great leader off the ice. We’re thrilled to keep him in an Islanders uniform."

Brendan Witt returned to active duty after an eight-game absence (knee). Witt recorded one shot on goal in the loss to the Flyers on Saturday in 18 minutes of action. The defenseman has little fantasy outside of PIM leagues.

Brendan Witt (sprained MCL) is "close" to returning, reports Newsday.com. Head coach Ted Nolan said Witt will make the road trip but he's not sure he's ready for tonight's game.

The Islanders announced before their Thursday 5-4 win over the Maple Leafs that veteran defenseman Brendan Witt will miss extended time with an MCL sprain. The team believes that Witt will likely miss 2-4 weeks of ice time.
