Curtis Joseph made his first start of the season for the Flames but it wasn't the start that he or the team hoped for as he stopped only 23 of 28 shots in the team's humiliating 5-0 defeat at the hands of the hated Oilers. About the only positive for Calgary was the 27 PIM that Eric Godard put up in a wild scene about half way through the third period. The team needs to find a capable backup to Miikka Kipprusoff to avoid burning out the Finnish keeper if they hope to go deep into the playoffs.

With Calgary playing both Monday and Tuesday night, head coach Mike Keenan has hinted that recent free agent signing Curtis Joseph could get his first start as a Flame in one of those games, according to the Oilers' official website. The Flames play the Oilers on Monday and the Coyotes on Tuesday, both teams Joseph has played for in the past, so it appears his first action of the 2007-08 season will come against a former team.

A weekend report from TSN.ca said that Curtis Joseph is considering a return to the NHL, and that the Sharks, Flames, Maple Leafs and Rangers were teams he was considering. However, it doesn't appear he will be joining the Sharks. They had talks with CuJo when they placed Dimitri Patzold on waivers last week in order to send him to the minors, but since he cleared waivers, they are no longer interested in Joseph, according to the Contra Costa Times. If you're desperate for netminding, it may not be a bad call to pick CuJo up now in case he returns to a good situation.
