Manny Fernandez underwent surgery on his left knee on Wednesday and is expected to miss the remainder of the season, according to the AP. He missed a substantial amount of time with an injury to the same knee last year while playing for the Wild.

Manny Fernandez plans to take a course of action to get back into games without undergoing surgery on his ailing knee. He's going to get back on his skates, try to build up strength in the joint and hope that will do the trick, according to the Boston Globe. Basically, surgery would cost him the rest of the season, so he's taking this approach as a last-ditch attempt to play again this season. Stay tuned.

Bruins goalie Manny Fernandez was placed on injured reserve on Friday, due to an injury to the same knee that sidelined him for half of last season when he was with the Minnesota Wild. Fernandez strained the knee during an October 30 practice, and has not been healthy since.

The Wild agreed to trade Manny Fernandez to the Bruins on Saturday in exchange for forward Petr Kalus and a mid-round draft pick, according to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune. The deal can’t technically be completed until Sunday. Fernandez compiled a 113-102-28 record in 260 games with the Wild.

Citing frustration with a lack of support from his team and the coaching staff, Fernandez is looking for a fresh start. “Any athlete who feels he’s been backed by his team and by their coaching staff, it’s been easier to make it,” Fernandez told the St. Paul Pioneer Press. “If they find a place for me, I have the confidence of the coaching staff and the team, I can do some good things.”

"We're going to treat Manny right now as if he's starting from the (knee) injury," said assistant GM Tom Lynn. Fernandez stayed in Minnesota during the four-day All-Star break and skated to test the knee, which he injured in a game against Dallas right before the break.
