The Washington Post reports that Jose Theodore will get the call in goal on Saturday. Coach Bruce Boudreau said before the morning skate that Brent Johnson was "scheduled to start." Johnson, however, said after the skate that he's not playing. Something similar happened against Nashville on Tuesday. Neither Boudreau nor Johnson would say whether Johnson is nursing an injury.

Jose Theodore will test the free agent market on July 1, according to TSN.ca. Contract talks between Theodore and Colorado have broken down. His agent (Don Meehan) stated, "I would say we are going to July 1. There's a chance we could still negotiate with the Avalanche after that, but right now it's looking like we're going to July 1."

Jose Theodore wants to continue his career in Colorado and the team feels the same way, according to the Rocky Mountain News. Theodore's agent (Don Meehan) said that he expects to talk with Colorado GM Francois Giguere about a contract extension, and Meehan added, "We're looking forward to seeing Francois and having discussions with him. Jose's priority would be to be back in Denver. We've expressed that to Francois, and they've indicated they would like to have him back."

Jose Theodore picked up his second shutout of the season on Thursday night as he stopped all 27 shots that the Ducks threw at him in Colorado's 1-0 victory. Theodore has been tremendous of late as he has won 5-straight starts for the Avalanche during which time he has allowed just seven goals.

Jose Theodore emerged victorious for the Avalanche on Friday night. After stopping 27 of 29 shots, Theodore then was able to extend the shutout to 12 rounds before Cody McLeod finally slipped one past Mikael Tellqvist for the victory. Theodore is now 9-8-1 over his last 18 games while the team coped with the loss of Joe Sakic, Ryan Smyth and Paul Stastny. Only Sakic has yet to return to action.

Jose Theodore may have allowed four goals on Monday night but he was still awarded the games third start as he played brilliantly despite the onslaught by the Wings (Theodore saved 36 of 40 shots on the night). Jose appears to have wrestled the goalie spot from Peter Budaj as he has gone 8-8-1 in his last 17 starts with a GAA of 2.17.

Jose Theodore returned to the Avalanche crease on Wednesday night after missing a week with back spasms and stopped 30 of 31 San Jose shots in picking up his 14th win of the season. Theodore and Peter Budaj will likely split playing time down the stretch unless one of them catches fire.

Jose Theodore will likely be out of action for a few more days as the team has recalled Michael Wall to backup Peter Budaj on Monday night since the team's other option in goal, Tyler Weiman, is also out of action. There is no further word on how long Theodore's back spasms will keep him out of action but he has not yet been placed on the IR.
