Randy Wolf agreed to a one-year contract with the Padres on Saturday, according to the AP. The terms of the deal are unclear, but the contract is expected to be heavily incentive-based, as Wolf made just 18 starts in 2007 due to minor shoulder surgery. Wolf, a flyball pitcher, should fit in well in PETCO Park, although he remains an injury risk for the 2008 season.

The Yankees are stepping up their attempts to acquire Johan Santana from the Twins. They upped the ante Friday when they decided to offer Phil Hughes as part of a trade proposal, according to Newsday. The Red Sox, Mets, Dodgers, Angels and Mariners all have expressed at least some interest in Santana, so the Twins likely will hear other offers before making a final decision.
