Andy Phillips, 3B, Cincinnati RedsMonday 12/3, 5:53 PM CT
The Yankees designated Andy Phillips for assignment Monday to make space on the roster for the newly-signed Jose Molina. Phillips hit .292 in 185 at-bats with the Yanks in 2007, but he never fit into their long-term plans. No matter where he lands, it's unlikely he'll be anything more than a role player.

Elijah Dukes, RF, Washington NationalsMonday 12/3, 2:41 PM CT
The Nationals have landed another young outfielder. Elijah Dukes has been sent to the nation's capitol in exchange for minor league left-hander Glenn Gibson. At the moment, it doesn't look like Dukes would have a starting job in Washington, but we'll have to see what the Nats do over the rest of the offseason.
Jake Peavy, P, San Diego PadresMonday 12/3, 12:57 PM CT
Jake Peavy and the Padres are working on a three-year contract extension that would pay the right-hander about $17 million per season, according to the AP. "I would say that we are making progress," Peavy's agent, Barry Axelrod, told MLB.com at the winter meetings in Nashville, Tennessee. "It's pretty encouraging." Peavy, the 2008 CY Young winner, is currently signed through 2008, although the Padres hold an $8 million option for the 2009 season.
