The Blue Jays had an offer on the table of Alex Rios for either of the pitchers, but that deal is now dead. "I did my job, I listened," Sabean said in the Mercury News. "I said before that's what we have to do as a last-place team. I never put either pitcher on the market or said I would trade either pitcher... We know the value of both individuals, believe me, more so now that we've gone through this exercise. They may be the two hottest names in baseball."
