Carlos Gonzalez, CF, Oakland AthleticsFriday 12/14, 6:10 PM CT
Carlos Gonzalez, the D'Backs' top prospect, was traded to the A's Friday in a deal that sent Dan Haren to Arizona. Gonzalez hit a combined .288 with 17 homers and 86 RBI between Double- and Triple-A last season, and he'll eventually be a mainstay in Oakland's outfield.
Dana Eveland, P, Oakland AthleticsFriday 12/14, 6:06 PM CT
Dana Eveland was sent to Oakland Friday in the Dan Haren trade. Eveland struggled in his brief stint in the big leagues last year, but he could figure into Oakland's rotation plans next year.
Alberto Callaspo, 2B, Kansas City RoyalsFriday 12/14, 4:59 PM CT
Alberto Callaspo was traded to the Royals Friday in exchange for Billy Buckner. "The addition of Alberto continues to increase the versatility on our team," Kansas City general manager Dayton Moore said. "He is a young, tremendously skilled player with a great eye at the plate and very solid defensive skills at three infield positions." Callaspo figures to be used in a utility role in KC.
Greg Aquino, P, Baltimore OriolesFriday 12/14, 4:56 PM CT
The Orioles claimed Greg Aquino off waivers from the Brewers on Friday. Aquino posted a 4.50 ERA in 15 relief appearances last year, but he spent the majority of his time in Triple-A. Despite the fact that Baltimore doesn't have an established closer, don't expect Aquino to be considered for the role.
C.J. Wilson, P, Texas RangersFriday 12/14, 12:49 PM CT
Rangers general manager Jon Daniels tells the Fort Worth Star-Telegram that C.J. Wilson is currently the best bet to open 2008 as the closer. Wilson picked up 12 saves and posted a 3.03 ERA in 2007. However, he had some shaky moments late in 2007 and walks too many guys, and we're still considering this situation to be fairly wide open heading into March.
Cliff Floyd, DH, Tampa Bay RaysFriday 12/14, 12:45 PM CT
The Rays and Cliff Floyd are still working on a one-year deal that would include an option for 2009, the St. Petersburg Times reports. Floyd, 35, hit .284-9-45 in 108 games for the Cubs in 2007.
Kazuo Fukumori, P, Texas RangersFriday 12/14, 12:39 PM CT
The Rangers agreed to terms with Japanese reliever Kazuo Fukumori on Thursday and will announce the signing on Friday, the SportsTicker reports. Fukumori closed games in Japan, but he is expected to work the seventh or eighth inning for the Rangers, at least initially. Their bullpen is fairly wide open heading into Spring Training.
