Jim Edmonds, CF, Chicago CubsFriday 12/14, 11:28 PM CT
The Padres acquired Jim Edmonds from the Cardinals Friday night in exchange for third base prospect David Freese, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune. In addition, San Diego will receive at least $1 million of the $8 million owed to Edmonds in 2008. Edmonds hit .252 with 12 homers in 365 at-bats last year, and he'll start in center field for the Padres, replacing the departed Mike Cameron. His production has dipped in recent years, partly due to injury, but a move to PETCO Park won't help him rebound offensively.

Shawn Estes signed a minor-league contract with the Padres on Friday. Estes, who is recovering from Tommy John surgery, will attempt to win a roster spot next spring.

Chad Qualls, P, Arizona DiamondbacksFriday 12/14, 6:03 PM CT
Chad Qualls was traded to Arizona Friday as a part of the deal that sent Jose Valverde to Houston. Qualls, who posted a 3.05 ERA in 79 games last season, could be considered for the closer role in Arizona, although that job will likely go to Tony Pena.
Chris Burke, LF, Arizona DiamondbacksFriday 12/14, 6:02 PM CT
Chris Burke was traded to Arizona Friday as a part of the Jose Valverde trade. Burke, who hit just .229 in 319 at-bats last year, will likely be used in a utility role in Arizona.
Jose Valverde, P, Houston AstrosFriday 12/14, 6:00 PM CT
Right after acquiring Dan Haren from Oakland, the D'Backs shipped Jose Valverde to Houston in exchange for Chad Qualls, Chris Burke and Juan Gutierrez, according to the AP. Valverde, who posted 47 saves with a 2.66 ERA for Arizona in 2007, will step in as Houston's closer.
Dan Haren, P, Arizona DiamondbacksFriday 12/14, 5:57 PM CT
The D'Backs acquired Dan Haren from Oakland Friday in exchange for Brett Anderson, Dana Eveland and Greg Smith, infielder Chris Carter and outfielders Aaron Cunningham and Carlos Gonzalez, according to the AP. Haren will now form a devastating 1-2 punch with Brandon Webb at the top of Arizona's rotation.
Glendon Rusch, P, Colorado RockiesFriday 12/14, 5:09 PM CT
Glendon Rusch signed a minor-league contract with the Padres on Friday, according to Yahoo!'s Tim Brown. Rusch missed the entire 2007 after being diagnosed with a blood clot in his lung, but he'll get a chance to compete for the Padres' No. 5 starter spot next spring.
Mike Lamb, 3B, Minnesota TwinsFriday 12/14, 5:02 PM CT
Mike Lamb agreed to a two-year contract with the Twins Friday. The deal also includes an option for the 2010 season, according to the AP. Lamb, who batted .289 with a .366 OBP and 11 homers in 311 at-bats last year, will receive the majority of the at-bats at third base for the Twins next season. Lamb's arrival means significantly less playing time for Nick Punto.
Alberto Callaspo, SS, Kansas City RoyalsFriday 12/14, 4:59 PM CT
Alberto Callaspo was traded to the Royals Friday in exchange for Billy Buckner. "The addition of Alberto continues to increase the versatility on our team," Kansas City general manager Dayton Moore said. "He is a young, tremendously skilled player with a great eye at the plate and very solid defensive skills at three infield positions." Callaspo figures to be used in a utility role in KC.
Billy Buckner, P, Arizona DiamondbacksFriday 12/14, 4:57 PM CT
The Diamondbacks acquired Billy Buckner from the Royals Friday in exchange for Alberto Callaspo. Following the addition of Miguel Tejada, the Astros will move Hunter Pence from third in the order to the sixth spot, the Houston Chronicle reports.
C.J. Wilson, P, Texas RangersFriday 12/14, 12:49 PM CT
Rangers general manager Jon Daniels tells the Fort Worth Star-Telegram that C.J. Wilson is currently the best bet to open 2008 as the closer. Wilson picked up 12 saves and posted a 3.03 ERA in 2007. However, he had some shaky moments late in 2007 and walks too many guys, and we're still considering this situation to be fairly wide open heading into March.
Cliff Floyd, DH, Tampa Bay RaysFriday 12/14, 12:45 PM CT
The Rays and Cliff Floyd are still working on a one-year deal that would include an option for 2009, the St. Petersburg Times reports. Floyd, 35, hit .284-9-45 in 108 games for the Cubs in 2007.
