| The Padres acquired Jim Edmonds from the Cardinals Friday night in exchange for third base prospect David Freese, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune. In addition, San Diego will receive at least $1 million of the $8 million owed to Edmonds in 2008. Edmonds hit .252 with 12 homers in 365 at-bats last year, and he'll start in center field for the Padres, replacing the departed Mike Cameron. His production has dipped in recent years, partly due to injury, but a move to PETCO Park won't help him rebound offensively. |
