Andy Pettitte, P, New York YankeesSaturday 12/15, 6:33 PM CT
Two days after being mentioned in the Mitchell Report, Andy Pettitte admitted using HGH to help recover from an elbow injury in 2002, according to the AP. "I felt an obligation to get back to my team as soon as possible. For this reason, and only this reason, for two days I tried human growth hormone. Though it was not against baseball rules, I was not comfortable with what I was doing, so I stopped. This is it -- two days out of my life; two days out of my entire career, when I was injured and on the disabled list," he said. "I wasn't looking for an edge. I was looking to heal." Pettitte said he tried HGH on two occasions, but he never used steroids.
Hiroki Kuroda, P, Los Angeles DodgersSaturday 12/15, 5:25 PM CT
Hiroki Kuroda agreed to a three-year contract with the Dodgers on Saturday, according to the LA Daily News. The deal is believed to be worth $36-40 million. Kuroda, considered one of the top pitchers on the market, will help fill out the back of the Dodgers rotation. This move means Esteban Loaiza will likely begin the year in the bullpen, unless Jason Schmidt suffers a setback.
Pete Orr, 3B, Washington NationalsSaturday 12/15, 5:21 PM CT
Pete Orr signed a minor-league deal with the Nationals on Saturday. He had been designated for assignment by the Braves last month. Orr will compete for a reserve infielder job next spring.
Ray King, P, Houston AstrosSaturday 12/15, 5:20 PM CT
Ray King agreed to a minor-league deal with the Nationals on Saturday. King posted a 4.76 ERA in 67 relief appearances for Washington last year, and he'll compete for a similar bullpen job in the spring.
