Jeff Fiorentino, CF, Baltimore OriolesWednesday 1/2, 1:07 PM CT
Jeff Fiorentino was designated for assignment Monday to open up a roster spot for Chris Roberson, who was acquired from the Phillies. Fiorentino played in 19 games for the Baltimore last year, hitting .256 in 39 at-bats.
Chris Roberson, OF, Baltimore OriolesWednesday 1/2, 1:03 PM CT
Chris Roberson was shipped to the Orioles Wednesday in exchange for cash considerations, according to the AP. He spent most of last year at Triple-A Ottawa, hitting .266 with four home runs, 48 RBI and 19 stolen bases in 113 games. Roberson will serve as a utility outfielder in Baltimore.
Reed Johnson, CF, Chicago CubsWednesday 1/2, 1:01 PM CT
The Blue Jays signed Reed Johnson to a one-year contract Wednesday worth $3.27 million. Johnson hit just .236 with two homers in 276 at-bats last year, but he could receive a decent amount of playing time in the outfield in '08.
Marcus Giles, 2B, Wednesday 1/2, 11:33 AM CT
The Rockies could bring in free agent Marcus Giles to compete for their second base job. Giles suffered through an atrocious 2007 campaign, hitting .229 in 420 at-bats for San Diego. "We have had ongoing talks. We are going to do everything we can to make something happen in Colorado," Giles' agent Joe Bick, told the Denver Post. "There are other teams involved, but Colorado represents a great opportunity." If the Rox don't end up signing Giles, they could go with Jayson Nix, Ian Stewart or Jeff Baker at second. Nix hasn't played in the big leagues yet, while Stewart and Baker are attempting a position switch.
