The Reds have engaged in preliminary discussions with the Athletics about pitcher Joe Blanton, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. The price for Blanton will be a top prospect and it is not considered likely the Reds will be willing to part with one at this time.

Ian Snell, P, Pittsburgh Pirates

The Pirates are in no hurry to lock Ian Snell down for a long time. The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports that Snell recently approached the team about a long-term deal, but was told the franchise was not interested. Snell is one of the cornerstones of the Pirates staff; however, he is three years away from free agency and the team has little incentive now to give him a multi-year deal. Another solid season from him may change their mind.

Zach Day, P, Minnesota Twins

Zach Day has inked a minor league deal with the Twins. He missed all of last season while recovering from rotator cuff surgery peformed in June of 2006. If he proves to be healthy and earns action in the Twins rotation, Day could have some fantasy value this season.

Joba Chamberlain, P, New York Yankees

Will Joba Chamberlain start the 2008 season in the Yankees rotation or bullpen? The final decision will be in the hands of manager Joe Girardi. "It's ultimately up to Joe Girardi," senior vice president Hank Steinbrenner told the Newark Star-Ledger. "Joe knows how to handle pitchers better than any of us." General manager Brian Cashman insists he will be part of the decision, as well. Chamberlain is currently being treated by the media as if he will be a member of the starting rotation.
