Joey Devine, P, Oakland AthleticsMonday 1/14, 6:07 PM CT
Joey Devine and minor league pitcher Jamie Richmond were sent to Oakland Monday as part of the Mark Kotsay deal. Devine, Atlanta's 2005 first-round pick, has dealt with injuries and has been hit-or-miss at the big-league level so far. He could be given a shot to close if Oakland ends up trading Huston Street.
Mark Kotsay, CF, Atlanta BravesMonday 1/14, 6:03 PM CT
The Braves have completed their trade with the A's for center fielder Mark Kotsay. Oakland will receive reliever Joey Devine and minor league pitcher Jamie Richmond in the deal. Kotsay is coming off an injury-plagued 2007 season in which he hit just .214 with one homer in 206 at-bats.
Troy Glaus, 3B, St. Louis CardinalsMonday 1/14, 6:00 PM CT
Troy Glaus and Scott Rolen both passed their physicals Monday, which finalizes the swap for the two third basemen. Glaus batted .262 with 20 homers in 285 at-bats last year. He is recovering from foot surgery.
Scott Rolen, 3B, Toronto Blue JaysMonday 1/14, 5:58 PM CT
Scott Rolen and Troy Glaus both passed their physicals Monday, which finalizes the swap for the two third basemen. Rolen hit .265 with just eight homers in 392 at-bats last year. He's coming back from shoulder surgery.
Chris Shelton, 1B, Texas RangersMonday 1/14, 4:32 PM CT
Chris Shelton was designated for assignment by the Rangers on Monday, according to the AP. The team has 10 days to trade, release or send him outright to the minors. Shelton, who was acquired from Detroit last month, spent most of last season in Triple-A. He could produce enough somewhere to land a platoon role, but it's unlikely he'll find an everyday job wherever he ends up.
Endy Chavez, LF, New York MetsMonday 1/14, 10:59 AM CT
Endy Chavez injured his right hamstring and right ankle while playing winter ball in Venezuela last month. The ailments are not expected to keep Chavez from being ready for spring training, according to the AP. Chavez missed 71 games last year with an injury to his left hamstring.
Vance Wilson, C, Detroit TigersMonday 1/14, 10:29 AM CT
Tigers manager Jim Leyland said that he's "very concerned" about the status of Vance Wilson heading into the season. Wilson missed nearly all of last season due to Tommy John surgery. "I would predict it's very unlikely he'd be usable very early on (in spring training)," Leyland added, according to the Detroit News. "I'm hoping after the first couple of weeks, he'd be ready to go, but I'm not sure of that. He's done a lot to keep himself in great shape, but I'm concerned." Those concerns could force the Tigers to hold on to Brandon Inge as a reserve catching option. After the Tigers acquired third baseman Miguel Cabrera, it was assumed that they'd deal Inge, but those plans might be on hold.
