The Rangers are considering brining Kevin Mench to training camp as a non-roster invitee, according to the Dallas Morning News. He could battle with Jason Botts and Nelson Cruz to be a right-handed-hitting backup outfielder. Mench hit .267 with eight homers in 288 at-bats for the Brewers last season after the Rangers dealt him to Milwaukee during the 2006 campaign.

Manny Ramirez said he plans to be at training camp on time this month, according to the Boston Herald. "I’ll be there on the 21st," he said. Ramirez has been working out at Athletes Performance Institute in Arizona since early December, so he should be in great shape as he enters an important couple of years. His current contract runs out after this season, but the Red Sox have options for 2009 and 2010, so clearly Manny has many reasons to perform well this season.
