| Dave Bush and the Brewers managed to avoid going to arbitration by agreeing to a one-year contract on Tuesday, according to the AP. Last year was a real disappointment for Bush, as his ERA and WHIP ballooned to 5.12 and 1.40, respectively. However, he showed a lot of upside in previous years, so he could still rebound in 2008. |

| The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that Javy Lopez is in the best shape of his life. The 37-year-old catcher signed a minor league contract with the Braves in December and will compete to back up Brian McCann. Lopez is hoping to not only pull off that feat but to play well enough to entice another team to trade for him to be an everyday option. |

| Katsuhiko Maekawa inked a minor-league deal with the Nationals Tuesday. He had an unimpressive 5.26 ERA and a 417/345 K/BB ratio in 609 innings during his career in Japan, but he did post a 1.82 ERA in seven starts in the Dominican Republic over the winter. The lefty will compete for a job in spring training. |

| The Orioles are interested in bringing in free agent right-hander Josh Fogg, according to the Denver Post. The Post also reports that the Twins could be interested, though the Minneapolis Star-Tribune has shot down those rumors. The O's will have a big hole to fill once the Erik Bedard trade goes down, and although Fogg isn't in the same league as Bedard, he would at least give the club some depth. |

| The Pirates and Freddy Sanchez have agreed to a two-year contract with an option for a third year. The deal is expected to be worth in the vicinity of $19 million, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Sanchez will get roughly $4.5 million in base pay for the coming season and about $6 million for the second season. He would get another raise in 2010 if the team exercises the option, though the option becomes guaranteed if the second baseman reaches a certain number of plate appearances over the next two years. |

| The Johan Santana deal has set the market for C.C. Sabathia, who will become a free agent after the 2008 season, and even though the Indians may not be able to afford to keep the lefty, GM Mark Shapiro believes it will be up to Sabathia whether or not he ends up staying in Cleveland. When asked to comment on Santana's contract and how it pertains to Sabathia, Shapiro told the Cleveland Plain Dealer: "You're asking the wrong person... There have been recent deals signed by pitchers as talented and capable as C.C., and in a more similar market than ours. But none of that matters. The only thing that matters is how relevant C.C. and his agents feel it is. Not to shift the burden to them, but I can't answer you how relevant it is." One thing Shapiro does know is that he can't see the Tribe dealing the reigning AL Cy Young winner. "I can't present you with a scenario where it's acceptable to us or to our relationship with our fans that involves trading C.C. or examining trading him," said Shapiro. |
