Cliff Lee won his first start of the '08 season on Sunday by retiring 10 of his last 12 batters as Cleveland won a 2-1 battle over the Oakland Athletics. Lee gave up four hits and struck out four in 6.2 innings of work. Just 5-8 over 16 starts during an injury-filled 2007, Lee retired his first seven hitters in Sunday's win. He walked one and only gave up one unearned run in helping the Indians halt a three-game losing streak.

Joe Crede, 3B, Chicago White SoxSunday 4/6, 11:20 PM CT
Joe Crede was 4-for-5 in Sunday's win over Detroit and is hitting .375 on the young season. The White Sox management appear to have made the right decision by sending uber-prospect Josh Fields to the farm for fine tuning. As long as Crede is healthy (chronic back ailment) he figures to produce. Owners should ride the third baseman while he's hot.
Justin Verlander, P, Detroit TigersSunday 4/6, 11:15 PM CT
Justin Verlander allowed a career-high nine runs, four of which were earned, over 5.2 innings of work on Sunday. He gave up seven hits and walked three, striking out four. Mark Buehrle, P, Chicago White SoxSunday 4/6, 11:12 PM CT
Mark Buehrle rebounded from a seven run beat-down on opening day to hold the hapless Tigers to two runs and seven hits over seven innings on Sunday. Buerhle's effort wasn't clean, but he was helped by double plays in each of his last four innings.
Wes Helms, 3B, Florida MarlinsSunday 4/6, 11:05 PM CT
The Phillies traded Wes Helms to the Florida Marlins on Sunday for cash, this according to Delaware Online. Jorge Cantu, who is currently the starting third baseman for the Fish, will likely lose some at-bats with Helms entering the picture.
Garrett Atkins, 3B, Colorado RockiesSunday 4/6, 10:55 PM CT
Garrett Atkins went 2-for-4 in Sunday's loss to the Diamondbacks. In his four at-bats, there was only one runner in scoring position. This has been the story for Atkins and the entire Rockies offense in '08. The Colorado third baseman is hitting .304 on the young season but has yet to drive in a run. One of Colorado's strongest attributes last year was its potent offense. So far, the Rockies have struggled, scoring two runs or less in five of six games.

Colorado rookie Franklin Morales held the Diamondbacks to two hits over six innings in his first start of the 2008 season. The left-hander struggled this spring (6.65 ERA and a 1.80 WHIP in 21.2 innings) but showed his potential with a strong showing on Sunday night.

The long ball gave the Rockies a second chance by extending the game into extra innings, but Arizona scored three in the top of the tenth to sweep Colorado. One week into the 2008 season, Holliday is hitting .182 with the one HR, one RBI and only one run scored. Katie bar the door when the 2007 MVP candidate breaks out.
Edgar Gonzalez, P, Arizona DiamondbacksSunday 4/6, 10:40 PM CT
Edgar Gonzalez worked five innings for the Diamondbacks, giving up just one run and scattering six hits as Arizona swept a three game series from Colorado on Sunday. He entered the game with a 9.00 career ERA against the Rockies. Gonzalez could receive a hand full of starts with Doug Davis scheduled to undergo surgery and Randy Johnson (back) taking part in a minor league rehab assignment, but he's the odd man out when both pitchers return.
Chad Qualls, P, Arizona DiamondbacksSunday 4/6, 10:36 PM CT
Chad Qualls worked out of a jam in the 10th inning of the Diamondbacks Sunday win over Colorado to earn his first save this season. The groundball specialist made it interesting after walking the first two batters, but got Ryan Spilborghs to roll into a double play and Troy Tulowitzki to line out to end the game.
Brandon Lyon, P, Arizona DiamondbacksSunday 4/6, 10:32 PM CT
Brandon Lyon gave up a Matt Holliday home run in the bottom half of the ninth inning in a blown save on Sunday night. It was Lyon's second blown save in three chances this season. The whispers of Tony Pena or Chad Qualls taking over the ninth inning role for the D'backs are growing louder.

His ERA jumped to 11.81 and he will need to bounce back soon if he wants to hold on to his spot in the Marlins' rotation.

Jacoby Ellsbury, CF, Boston Red SoxSunday 4/6, 3:34 PM CT

It just doesn't fit what we're trying to do right now. It wouldn't surprise me if a club tries to sign him at some point. There are a lot of positives in that regard, not the least of which is there's no need to trade young talent to acquire him. It comes down to how you value all of the elements.
