Eric Chavez ran the bases and fielded grounders on Friday, according to the SF Chronicle. It was a good day for him, and Manager Bob Geren said Chavez could begin a minor-league rehab assignment "in the one or two-week range." He's eligible to come off the DL and join the team on May 27, and Geren said, "It's his goal right now." But Chavez is not sure he will be ready by that date, and said, "If I was a betting man, I'd say no. Before you start throwing out dates, you have to go out and play."

Wise added, "I want to able to help them as much as I can in this five-month span and then the playoffs. I'm kind of hanging out."
