Grizzlies forward Brian Cardinal played in just 28 games last season before undergoing arthroscopic knee surgery in February, but told the Memphis Commercial-Appeal that he can’t remember the last time he’s felt this good. He is fully participating in training camp.
Kwame Brown, F, Detroit PistonsWednesday 10/3, 10:43 AM CT
After ankle and shoulder surgeries this offseason, Lakers center Kwame Brown will be limited for most, if not all, of training camp. The LA Times reported that Brown sounded more hopeful than convinced about playing in the season opener against Houston on October 30.
Kwame Brown, F, Detroit PistonsWednesday 10/3, 10:38 AM CT
Lakers center Kwame Brown was arrested in Georgia on Saturday morning and charged with disorderly conduct and interference with an officer after his cousin was pulled over and charged with DUI, the LA Times reported. It is only the latest of several run-ins with the law in Brown’s short career.
Nene Hilario, F, Denver NuggetsWednesday 10/3, 10:33 AM CT
Still nursing a calf injury suffered in early September at the FIBA Americas Olympic qualifying tournament, Nuggets forward Nene Hilario did not practice on Tuesday according to the Denver Post. He did some light shooting and stretching instead.
Sean May, F, Charlotte BobcatsWednesday 10/3, 10:13 AM CT
Bobcats forward Sean May missed the start of training camp on Tuesday because he was in New York seeing a knee specialist, the AP reported. He is scheduled to see another doctor in Alabama on Wednesday, and his timetable after that is unknown. May has played in only 58 of 164 games in his first two seasons because of right knee pain. “Before he goes to the next step of really having to push it for training camp, everybody just wants to make sure that the knee is healthy enough to do that,” coach Sam Vincent said.
Dan Dickau, G, Wednesday 10/3, 10:07 AM CT
The Knicks completed a buyout of Dan Dickau’s contract on Tuesday, the AP reported. Dickau is now a free agent.
Shavlik Randolph, F, Portland TrailblazersWednesday 10/3, 10:04 AM CT
Sixers forward Shavlik Randolph is taking slow while trying to come back from a broken left ankle that cost him most of last season. “I pushed myself so hard to try to get back and play the last 10 games, that I really set myself back for the summer,” Randolph told the AP. He worked out lightly in practice on Tuesday and could participate in full workouts by the end of the week.
Samuel Dalembert, C, Philadelphia 76ersWednesday 10/3, 9:52 AM CT
Sixers center Samuel Dalembert worked out lightly on Tuesday, a day after he had the boot removed that was protecting his broken left foot, the AP reported. Dalembert spent two weeks in a cast and two in the boot after a stress fracture was discovered this summer. “Me and the staff, we’re trying to go slow with it,” Dalembert said. He will be slowly worked back into full practices during training camp.
Kenyon Martin, F, Denver NuggetsWednesday 10/3, 9:47 AM CT
Nuggets forward Kenyon Martin is taking things slow in his return from a second microfracture surgery and has yet to do contact drills, but told the AP he expects to be ready to play in the season opener on October 31. Martin waited only five months after his first surgery to get back on the court and wound up blowing out his right knee two games into last season. It has been nine months since his latest surgery. K-Mart has also dropped 10 pounds, which he thinks will make things easier on his knees.
Lamar Odom, F, Los Angeles LakersWednesday 10/3, 9:33 AM CT
Lakers forward Lamar Odom participated in his first practice on Tuesday, the AP reported. Odom is recovering from offseason surgery on his left shoulder. “He did a lot more today than I thought he would,” general manager Mitch Kupchak said. “He went through half a practice. That’s good, as long as he doesn’t have soreness.”
Kevin Durant, G, Oklahoma City ThunderWednesday 10/3, 9:29 AM CT
Although he’s taller than most at the position, rookie Kevin Durant is likely to start at shooting guard for the Sonics this season, the AP reported. “In my opinion, that’s where he’s best suited right now,” coach P.J. Carlesimo said. “He’s like Magic (Johnson) in that you can play him probably any of four positions, if not five. Playing the two, he’s not going to get to get beat up, box to box, the whole game.”
