Bobcats forward Sean May will miss the rest of the season as he will have microfracture surgery to repair his right knee. This is the same knee that has been troubling May throughout his entire pro career, in which he has played only 58 of a possible 164 games since he was drafted in 2005. May averaged 10.4 points and 5.9 rebounds last season.

Rockets center Yao Ming still has a slightly torn labrum in his right shoulder, but the problem is not a concern and Yao still passed his physical after arriving late to training camp, the Houston Chronicle reported. Yao developed soreness in the shoulder last season and the tear was found, but the team determined Yao could better treat the shoulder with strengthening and stretching exercises rather than surgery.

Mavericks swingman Devean George may not be ready for the season opener on October 31 thanks to a stress reaction in his left ankle. The Dallas Morning News reported that George visited Indiana on Thursday to visit the doctor that did surgery on his ankle a few years ago. He has been released to work out on a treadmill for the next two weeks, then will have his on-court work ramped up for two weeks after that.

The Raptors exercised their team option on Andrea Bargnani for the 2008-09 season on Friday, the AP reported. The squad also has a fourth-year option on him for the 2009-10 season.
