Guard Allan Houston made his first appearance in the Knicks camp as he participated in a practice on Friday. Houston, attempting to make a comeback at age 36, had a great practice according to coach Isiah Thomas. “He could still shoot the ball,” Thomas said. “He’s probably one of the top 10 best shooters to ever play in our sport. So he’ll be able to shoot the ball when he’s 60 years old.”

Wizards center Etan Thomas was not ruled out for the season following open heart surgery on Friday to repair a leaking aortic valve, the AP reported. “We think the function of his heart and lungs should return to normal,” cardiovascular surgeon Dr. Hartzell Schaff said. Schaff added that most patients recover from the operation in four to eight weeks, but returning to basketball will require a longer rehab. The biggest hurdle is the healing of Thomas’ sternum, which had to be broken to perform the surgery.

Erick Dampier did some things in Mavericks practice on Thursday as he continues to rehab his surgically repaired right shoulder. The Dallas Morning News reported that there still is no timetable for his return, which could be anywhere from mid-November to mid-December. Coach Avery Johnson said Dampier would likely be ready for contact in “another week or so.”
