Amir Johnson, F, Detroit PistonsTuesday 10/16, 11:32 AM CT
Injured Pistons Amir Johnson and Nazr Mohammed should both be back this week. The Detroit Free Press reported that Mohammed will test his sore calf on Tuesday, while Johnson, who has not participated since the first week of practice due to a sprained ankle, could possibly play Wednesday against the Nuggets.
Richard Hamilton, G, Detroit PistonsTuesday 10/16, 11:19 AM CT
Pistons guard Richard Hamilton could miss the rest of the preseason with a sprained left ankle, the Detroit Free Press reported. Hamilton rolled the ankle in Sunday’s preseason game against the Nuggets. X-rays came back negative, so the worst-case scenario is he misses the rest of the preseason. He should be back for the regular season.
Ben Gordon, G, Chicago BullsTuesday 10/16, 10:37 AM CT
Bulls guard Ben Gordon missed Chicago’s first two preseason games due to a sprained left ankle, but told the Chicago Sun Times he hopes to be back at 100 percent soon.
Luol Deng, G, Chicago BullsTuesday 10/16, 10:35 AM CT
Bulls coach Scott Skiles planned on eventually getting Luol Deng playing time at the shooting guard spot, but nagging injuries to Ben Gordon and Thabo Sefolosha this preseason has sped up the timetable, as Deng already has played there in two exhibition games. Skiles told the Chicago Sun-Times that Deng presents matchup problems for opponents at the position.
Bobby Simmons, G, New Jersey NetsTuesday 10/16, 10:29 AM CT
Bucks coach Larry Krystkowiak is still deciding on two of his starting spots for this season. He told the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel that the small forward job will go to either Bobby Simmons or Desmond Mason, while either Charlie Villanueva or Yi Jianlian will start at power forward. Krystkowiak said he is more worried about finding the right combinations rather than who will start, claiming that all four of the aforementioned players will get big minutes.
Ryan Gomes, F, Minnesota TimberwolvesTuesday 10/16, 10:01 AM CT
Timberwolves forward Ryan Gomes played only four minutes on Monday against Memphis before leaving the game with an injured foot. Coach Randy Wittman told the Minneapolis Star Tribune that Gomes’ condition would be re-evaluated on Tuesday.
Gilbert Arenas, G, Washington WizardsTuesday 10/16, 9:53 AM CT
Gilbert Arenas and Antonio Daniels both missed Sunday’s preseason game due to minor injuries, but both players are expected to suit up for the Wizards on Tuesday against Chicago, the Washington Post reported. Arenas is still working his way back from last season’s knee injury, while Daniels has a mild left ankle sprain.
Eddy Curry, C, New York KnicksTuesday 10/16, 9:43 AM CT
Knicks center Eddy Curry returned to practice on Monday after being sidelined since October 6 with a torn labrum in his shooting arm, the New York Daily News reported. Curry will wear a shoulder brace for at least two weeks. He is expected to play in New York’s preseason game against Boston on Wednesday.
Fred Jones, G, New York KnicksTuesday 10/16, 9:38 AM CT
Fred Jones was viewed as a throw-in piece to the Zach Randolph trade this offseason, and with Allan Houston and rookie Demetris Nichols fighting for a roster spot, it seemed it was only a matter of time before Jones was let go. But Houston and Nichols may be on their way out, as coach Isiah Thomas, unsolicited, told the New York Daily News, “Don’t plan on (Jones) going anywhere anytime soon.” Jones is a tough defender and played for Thomas in Indiana, so considering that perimeter defense was non-existent in New York last season, Jones could even push for playing time.
Eddie House, G, Boston CelticsTuesday 10/16, 9:02 AM CT
The Celtics are trying to prepare Eddie House to play point guard as well as shooting guard off the bench this season. House has been a source of instant offense in his career, but coach Doc Rivers told the Boston Globe that no one has given him a chance to produce as a point guard. The current plan is for House to be the usual replacement for Rajon Rondo when he goes to the bench.
Peja Stojakovic, G, New Orleans HornetsTuesday 10/16, 6:03 AM CT
Peja Stojakovic played just four minutes Monday due to muscle stiffness. Head coach Byron Scott downplayed the issue.
Andrei Kirilenko, F, Utah JazzTuesday 10/16, 5:58 AM CT
