Hines Ward, WR, Pittsburgh SteelersTuesday 10/2, 10:07 PM CT
Hines Ward is considered day-to-day as he deals with his knee injury, the AP reports. He didn't play in Week 4 at Arizona. "He had a good day of rehab," head coach Mike Tomlin said Tuesday. "I spoke with him and he feels good. We will take it day to day and see where he is. We'll do what's smart in that area, but that decision will be determined later in the week."
Clinton Portis, RB, Washington RedskinsTuesday 10/2, 4:22 PM CT
Clinton Portis is not currently dealing with knee tendinitis, as coach Joe Gibbs said on Monday. Portis has a bruise and a Grade-1 sprain of his right knee, director of sports medicine Bubba Tyer informs the Washington Post. The running back is day-to-day, and Tyer believes Portis will play in Week 5.
Matt Schaub, QB, Houston TexansTuesday 10/2, 10:46 AM CT
Matt Schaub b underwent an MRI Monday on his sore thigh, but the tests were purely precautionary. “I just have a little thigh bruise,” Schaub told the Houston Chronicle. “The doctors are just going to take a look at it. We’re not concerned about it. We just want to make sure everything is OK.”
Tarvaris Jackson, QB, Minnesota VikingsTuesday 10/2, 10:31 AM CT
Tarvaris Jackson is hopeful of returning from a groin injury following the Week 5 bye. “It has been getting better each week and I’ve got another week to get even better,” Jackson told the Minneapolis Star Tribune. “I think I should be ready.”
Calvin Johnson, WR, Detroit LionsTuesday 10/2, 10:22 AM CT
The back injury that prevented Calvin Johnson from playing on Sunday is still an issue heading into Week 5. “I think he feels better,” head coach Rod Marinelli told Tuesday’s Detroit Free Press. “I think he’s working toward (playing on Sunday). I’m optimistic. But I’m not going to say he’s playing.”
Levi Brown, OT, Arizona CardinalsTuesday 10/2, 10:22 AM CT
Cardinals offensive tackle Levi Brown will be examined during the week to determine his status for Sunday, according to the Arizona Republic. He missed Week 4’s win over the Steelers because of an injured ankle. Brown is an important part of the Cardinals improved offensive line and losing him hurts the offense, especially the running game.
Marcel Shipp, RB, Tuesday 10/2, 10:17 AM CT
Cardinal running back Marcel Shipp is expected to play this weekend after leaving Sunday’s contest with bruised ribs, according to the Arizona Republic. Shipp will see only a handful of carries if he plays, and as long as they are not at the goal line, he has no fantasy value.
Greg Jennings, WR, Green Bay PackersTuesday 10/2, 10:16 AM CT
Greg Jennings will not be allowed to practice until Friday due to the hamstring injury that has bothered him throughout the season. “I’m not practicing him,” head coach Mike McCarthy told the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. “He’s practicing Friday. I made the mistake last week of practicing him on Wednesday and his hamstring fatigued.”
Obafemi Ayanbadejo, RB, Tuesday 10/2, 10:09 AM CT
The Bears released Obafemi Ayanbadejo on Monday, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. He was eligible to return that same day from a four-game suspension for violating the league’s steroid policy.
Greg Olsen, TE, Chicago BearsTuesday 10/2, 10:03 AM CT
Lovie Smith acknowledged that he wants to get rookie Greg Olsen more involved in the offense. “We need to get to Greg Olsen more,” Smith told the Chicago Tribune on Monday. “The passing game right now, you can say we need to get the ball to Olsen more, to Devin Hester.” Olsen was on the field for roughly 10 plays during Sunday’s loss to the Lions.
Corey Dillon, RB, Tuesday 10/2, 9:53 AM CT
Corey Dillon turned down an offer to sign with the Buccaneers Monday. “Corey’s not hurting for money,” agent Steve Feldman told ESPN.com. “He has his money taken care of.” Dillon has yet to file his retirement papers, but has indicated that he has no intention of playing again.
Vonnie Holliday, DE, Miami DolphinsTuesday 10/2, 9:46 AM CT
Defensive lineman Vonnie Holliday suffered a fracture in his right ankle during Sunday's loss to the Raiders and could miss as many as two games. "He has had that injury before, and he said he is very positive that it will not be a long-term thing, but we'll keep you posted on that," coach Cam Cameron told the Miami Herald. "He has been casted with a slight fracture." Holliday's loss will be felt on a defense that already ranks dead last in the NFL against the run.
Jake Delhomme, QB, Carolina PanthersTuesday 10/2, 9:46 AM CT
Jake Delhomme acknowledged that surgery is a last resort option for his injured right elbow. However, he said he believes he can treat it through rehabilitation. Delhomme also told the Charlotte Observer that he is hopeful of playing on Sunday against the Saints.
Alex Smith, QB, San Francisco 49ersTuesday 10/2, 9:44 AM CT
The 49ers won’t have Alex Smith under center for a long time. The quarterback told the San Francisco Chronicle that he expects to miss several weeks with the Grade 3 separation of his throwing shoulder he suffered on Sunday. Trent Dilfer will start in Smith’s place, and that is bad news for the passing game.
Ricky Williams, RB, Miami DolphinsTuesday 10/2, 9:42 AM CT
Ricky Williams officially applied for reinstatement into the NFL on Monday. "Ricky is extremely excited about the prospect of playing in the NFL agan and hopeful for a positive response," his agent Leigh Steinberg told the Miami Herald. Both the NFL and the Dolphins, who retain Williams' rights, declined comment. Under the NFL's substance abuse program, league doctors have up to 45 days to submit a report an recommendation to the commissioner, who then has 15 more days to make a decision.
Dan Morgan, LB, Tuesday 10/2, 9:38 AM CT
Dan Morgan is not expected to play in Sunday’s game against the Saints. He revealed to the Charlotte Observer that he is nursing a partially torn Achilles tendon in his right heel. He did not play in Sunday’s loss to the Buccaneers.
J.P. Losman, QB, Buffalo BillsTuesday 10/2, 9:36 AM CT
Predictably, speculation mounted in Buffalo on Monday that injured quarterback J.P. Losman might not regain his starting job after rookie Trent Edwards led the team to victory in his first NFL start in Week 4. When asked by the Rochester Democrat & Chronicle if he feared for his job, Losman replied, "In this league, of course… It's every player's fear to get injured and to have some kind of controversy over something like that. I don't think anyone's job on this team is secure; you have to perform week in and week out."
Andrew Pinnock, RB, Denver BroncosTuesday 10/2, 9:23 AM CT
Andrew Pinnock underwent knee surgery on Monday and will miss three-to-four weeks, the North County Times reports.
Eric Parker, WR, San Diego ChargersTuesday 10/2, 9:19 AM CT
The Chargers continue to be without the services of Eric Parker, and head coach Norv Turner says he is still three or four weeks away from returning. "It's a matter of him being able to run full speed straight-ahead, then run routes and then go back into practice," Turner tells the North County Times. Parker underwent surgery on August 3 to repair a cracked sesamoid bone near his right big toe.
Michael Bush, RB, Oakland RaidersTuesday 10/2, 9:12 AM CT
Remember Michael Bush? The Raiders rookie is reportedly making progress and impressing his coaches. "He's the lowest he's been at his weight for over a year," head coach Lane Kiffin tells the Oakland Tribune. "He looks great, and he's been buying into our program. He's been great in the weightroom with our staff. He looks really good." Bush opened the season on the PUP list. He broke his right leg on September 3, 2006 and needed multiple surgeries. The latest operation came in March, when he had a steel rod inserted into the leg.
LaMont Jordan, RB, New England PatriotsTuesday 10/2, 9:08 AM CT
LaMont Jordan received good news on Monday when X-rays of his injured back were negative. The team is on the bye in Week 5, and Jordan could be ready for Week 6. However, he may need to give up some of the carries. "Our plan all along was to have (several) guys carrying the ball, not just one guy carrying the ball all the time," head coach Lane Kiffin tells the Oakland Tribune.
Javon Walker, WR, Oakland RaidersTuesday 10/2, 8:58 AM CT
Javon Walker is sure that his right knee won't keep him out in the long run, but he is not certain about Week 5. "I've done long-term before, and this is not it," Walker tells the Denver Post. "I just have to wait for it to drain." He insists that this swelling and inflammation has nothing to do with the torn ACL he suffered in 2005. Walker did not play in Week 4 against the Colts.
Travis Henry, RB, Tuesday 10/2, 8:54 AM CT
Travis Henry underwent an MRI on his injured right knee and sprained right ankle on Monday. The results were not made available, the Rocky Mountain News reports. X-rays taken on Sunday were negative.
Chris Cooley, TE, Washington RedskinsTuesday 10/2, 8:47 AM CT
Chris Cooley has only six catches and 54 yards through three games, but fantasy owners can blame injuries to the team's offensive line. "He understands the situation; we've had a lot of lineman hurt. Right now, we have to use him to block more," quarterback Jason Campbell tells the Washington Post. "But we understand the best thing he does for this team is route running and making catches for us. His time is going to come."
Santana Moss, WR, Washington RedskinsTuesday 10/2, 8:39 AM CT
Santana Moss sat out on Monday due to a strained left groin, but he hopes to practice later in the week and be ready for Sunday's game against the Lions. "It's a long season still, and I'm not trying to sit here and have something pretty much continue to bother me through the long year," he tells the Washington Post. "Thus far it's feeling a lot better, so who knows what will happen later in the week." Moss suffered the injury in Week 3.
Lawrence Tynes, K, New York GiantsTuesday 10/2, 8:30 AM CT
Lawrence Tynes missed a field goal and an extra point last Sunday, and head coach Tom Coughlin isn't exactly pleased about the situation. "We can't afford to miss them," Coughlin tells the New York Post. "I didn't think that was an especially difficult (field goal try)... It doesn't necessarily mean we are going to do anything about it, but obviously you are going to address situations like this."
Brandon Jacobs, RB, New York GiantsTuesday 10/2, 8:26 AM CT
Brandon Jacobs will see more carries in practice this week and could return Sunday against the Jets. "We will see where he is," head coach Tom Coughlin tells the team's official web site. "He has been cleared obviously to practice last week so we had him take X amount of reps and we will increase the reps this week and see exactly where he is, what his comfort zone is with all the maneuvers that he will have to go through." Jacobs sprained the MCL in his right knee during the second quarter of the season opener against the Cowboys.
Anthony Henry, CB, Dallas CowboysTuesday 10/2, 8:18 AM CT
The Cowboys do not expect Anthony Henry to play in Week 5 against the Bills. Henry suffered a high right ankle sprain last Sunday. "It's not a severe one. Normally if it's a high ankle sprain, it's like four weeks. If it's not severe, maybe it's two weeks. We're evaluating, but I think he'd be real iffy this week," head coach Wade Phillips tells the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
Lemar Marshall, LB, Cincinnati BengalsTuesday 10/2, 8:00 AM CT
Lemar Marshall ruptured his Achilles' tendon on the second snap of Monday's game and is out for the year, the Bengals official site reports.

Willie Anderson played just three snaps Monday night as he continues to battle a sore knee and foot, the Bengals official site reports.
T.J. Houshmandzadeh, WR, Cincinnati BengalsTuesday 10/2, 7:56 AM CT
T.J. Houshmandzadeh was Cincinnati's featured wideout Monday night, catching 10 passes for 100 yards and a touchdown, compared to 11 receptions for the rest of the roster combined. Houshmandzadeh appeared to be gimpy at the tail end of the game, but the club didn't immediately address it so this likely isn't anything to be concerned about.
Chad Johnson, WR, Cincinnati BengalsTuesday 10/2, 7:54 AM CT
Chad Johnson had just three catches for 53 yards in Monday's loss to New England, and he also sprained his left ankle late in the game, according to the Bengals offical site. The team ddn't immediately seem concerned about Johnson going forward, but we'll see what we learn in the next few days.
Donte Stallworth, WR, Cleveland BrownsTuesday 10/2, 7:49 AM CT
Donte Stallworth had four catches for 49 yards in Monday's victory at Cincinnati. Not a giant game by any means, but it's progress for Stallworth, who had just four receptions entering the night.
Sammy Morris, RB, New England PatriotsTuesday 10/2, 7:47 AM CT
Sammy Morris was a capable fill-in for the Patriots Monday, carrying 21 times for 117 yards and a touchdown at Cincinnati. He also caught a pair of passes for 15 yards. It's the fourth straight game Morris has logged double-digit carries in; the first three came with Laurence Maroney, this effort without him.
Ben Utecht, TE, Cincinnati BengalsTuesday 10/2, 7:36 AM CT
Ben Utecht left Sunday's game with a concussion, the AP reports. His status for Week 5's game with Tampa Bay is not known.
Marvin Harrison, WR, Indianapolis ColtsTuesday 10/2, 7:34 AM CT
Marvin Harrison missed the final 2 1/2 quarters against Denver Sunday, and it's not clear if he'll be able to play in Week 5, the AP reports. "I don't think it's a long-term thing, and Marvin didn't think so either when I talked to him," team president Bill Polian said on his weekly radio show Monday. "But we haven't gotten the results of the MRI yet, so I can't tell you for sure."
Craig Davis, WR, San Diego ChargersTuesday 10/2, 7:32 AM CT
Craig Davis has a strained ankle tendon and will be limited in practice this week, Norv Turner told the AP Monday. It's still likely that Davis will be able to play in Week 5.
Alvin Pearman, RB, Seattle SeahawksTuesday 10/2, 7:30 AM CT
Alvin Pearman torn the ACL in his left knee this past weekend and is done for the year, the AP reports. He was mainly a special-teams performer for the Seahawks.
Clinton Portis, RB, Washington RedskinsTuesday 10/2, 7:28 AM CT
Clinton Portis was limited in practice Monday despite a full week to rest after a bye because of concern over his persistently ailing knee, the AP reports. "His knee is still a little agitated and we'll see how it goes this week," Joe Gibbs said. "It was just a soreness that came out of that (Giants) game."
Luke Petitgout, T, Tampa Bay BuccaneersTuesday 10/2, 7:26 AM CT
Luke Petitgout is headed for knee surgery after getting injured Sunday at Carolina and is done for the season. It was a terrible day for the Tampa Bay running attack, as it also lost Carnell Williams Sunday.
Cadillac Williams, RB, Tampa Bay BuccaneersTuesday 10/2, 7:24 AM CT
Cadillac Williams is out for the seaosn after suffering a right knee injury Sunday. He'll have surgery this week, and according to some reports his career could be in jeopardy. Michael Pittman and Earnest Graham figure to carry the load in Tampa now that Williams is out of the picture. The Bucs lost two prongs of their running game Sunday, as starting tackle Luke Petitgout also suffered a season-ending knee injury at Carolina.
Randy Moss, WR, New England PatriotsTuesday 10/2, 7:10 AM CT
Randy Moss added to his illustrious Monday night resume with a big game at Cincinnati Monday, catching nine passes for 102 yards and two touchdowns. He's arguably the MVP of the league through four weeks, putting up 31 catches, 505 yards, seven touchdowns, and at least 100 yards in every start.
Brian Griese, QB, Tampa Bay BuccaneersTuesday 10/2, 7:01 AM CT
The Bears will stick with Brian Griese at quarterback despite his poor play at Detroit Sunday, the AP reports. Griese finished the day 34-for-52 for 286 yards, with two touchdowns and three interceptions. This is a good example of how a decent fantasy day (Griese scored well for any league that doesn't tax turnovers) doesn't always equate to an effective game in real life. The Bears stay in the division the next two weeks, playing Green Bay and Minnesota.
