Levi Brown, OT, Arizona CardinalsWednesday 10/3, 9:43 PM CT
Rookie left tackle Levi Brown is questionable for Sunday's tilt against the Rams with an ankle injury. Brown took place in some practice Wednesday, but spent most of the day in rehab. If Brown is unable to go Elton Brown will start in his place.
Alex Smith, QB, San Francisco 49ersWednesday 10/3, 8:15 PM CT
No news is good news for quarterback Alex Smith and his right shoulder. The Niners sent the MRI results to noted orthopedic surgeon, Dr. James Andrews, and his diagnosis was the same as before, a moderate shoulder separation that will not require surgery. Smith is listed as out for this week’s game, and he will have to wait for the swelling to subside in his shoulder before further evaluation or treatment.
Adrian Peterson, RB, Minnesota VikingsWednesday 10/3, 8:00 PM CT
Vikings running back Adrian Peterson was named the NFL’s offensive rookie of the month for September. Peterson piled up 383 yards rushing, 166 yards receiving, and reached the end zone twice.
Ahman Green, RB, Houston TexansWednesday 10/3, 7:43 PM CT
Houston running back Ahman Green is dealing with the loss of his stepfather, who succumbed to liver cancer on Tuesday night in a Houston hospital. Edward Scott married Green’s mother when he was six and helped raise him. Green missed Sunday’s game due to a knee injury, but returned to practice on Wednesday. Texans coach Gary Kubiak was unsure if he expected Green to play this week.
Reggie Bush, RB, New Orleans SaintsWednesday 10/3, 7:33 PM CT
Running back Reggie Bush is excited about his new role as the feature back in New Orleans, even though he regrets seeing his teammate Deuce McAllister out for the season. "I hate that it came off of such a big loss for us in Deuce, but I feel confident in myself that I'll be able to carry the load and make up for what we're losing with Deuce," Bush told the AP. "I feel like we won't miss a beat."
Dominic Rhodes, RB, Indianapolis ColtsWednesday 10/3, 7:24 PM CT
Running back Dominic Rhodes returned to practice Wednesday for the first time since the end of the preseason. He had a four-week suspension for violating the league’s substance abuse policy.
Cadillac Williams, RB, Tampa Bay BuccaneersWednesday 10/3, 7:09 PM CT
The season is officially over for running back Cadillac Williams and left tackle Luke Petitgout as both were officially placed on IR today by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Williams’ torn patella tendon could be career ending.
Alex Smith, QB, San Francisco 49ersWednesday 10/3, 3:29 PM CT
It turns out the 49ers are not seeking a second opinion on Alex Smith’s injured shoulder. The Sacramento Bee is reporting that Smith will not head to Alabama to see Dr. James Andrews, but instead a copy of Smith's MRI results will be sent to the good doctor. The paper calls this a standard procedure. While this means Smith’s season is probably not over, it will be several weeks before he can return to the field. That will give Trent Dilfer plenty of time to remind us that he’s terrible and over the hill.
Laurence Maroney, RB, New England PatriotsWednesday 10/3, 3:14 PM CT
The Patriots official injury report listed Laurence Maroney as having been a limited participant in practice on Wednesday. According to the Boston Globe, the Patriots were not in full pads on Wednesday.
David Thomas, TE, New England PatriotsWednesday 10/3, 3:10 PM CT
The Patriots placed tight end David Thomas on injured reserve on Wednesday. According to the Boston Globe, Thomas suffered a foot injury during Week 4's victory over the Bengals. He has been replaced on the roster by free agent signee Marcellus Rivers.
Anquan Boldin, WR, Arizona CardinalsWednesday 10/3, 2:43 PM CT
Cardinals receiver Anquan Boldin didn’t practice on Wednesday because of the hip injury which kept him out of last week’s game, according to the Arizona Republic. Boldin’s hip problems continue to be a significant issue. If he doesn’t practice either of the next two days, fantasy owners will need to prepare for another week without him.
Marc Bulger, QB, St. Louis RamsWednesday 10/3, 12:21 PM CT
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch has confirmed an earlier report from Pro Football Talk that the Rams will bench Marc Bulger for a week or two. Scott Linehan just did Bulger a huge favor by allowing his injured ribs to heal. Gus Frerotte will start in his place.
Jerramy Stevens, TE, Tampa Bay BuccaneersWednesday 10/3, 10:29 AM CT
Jerramy Stevens was sentenced to 12 days in jail and fined $3,160 due to his drunk driving conviction last month in Arizona. However, the sentence was stayed pending an appeal, meaning Stevens will not have to serve time immediately. In fact, the St. Petersburg Times speculates that Stevens won’t have to serve the time until after the season is completed.
Bryant McKinnie, T, Minnesota VikingsWednesday 10/3, 10:14 AM CT
The Buccaneers may be in the hunt for a veteran offensive tackle to replace starter Luke Petitgout, who was lost for the season with an ACL injury. A report in a Tampa newspaper speculated that the Bucs had contacted the Vikings regarding Bryant McKinnie , but the Minneapolis Star-Tribune reports that there is no evidence to support that suspicion.
Rodney Harrison, S, New England PatriotsWednesday 10/3, 10:14 AM CT
Rodney Harrison is done serving the four-week suspension handed down for violating the NFL's banned substances policy, but it's unclear if he'll step into the starting lineup immediately. According to the Boston Globe, the team has been granted a roster exemption until October 8, or until the team decides to activate Harrison, which gives them time to judge whether or not he's in football shape.
Donte Stallworth, WR, Cleveland BrownsWednesday 10/3, 10:13 AM CT
Tom Brady sung the praises of Donte Stallworth on Tuesday. "I thought Donte played his best game so far as a Patriot," Brady told the Boston Globe of Stallworth's four-catch, 49-yard effort. Stallworth had a grand total of four catches and 66 yards in the first three games combined.
Marc Bulger, QB, St. Louis RamsWednesday 10/3, 10:12 AM CT
Will Gus Frerotte be under center for the Rams this Sunday? Pro Football Talk thinks so because they are reporting Marc Bulger will be benched because of his poor start to the season and his two broken ribs. Either the Rams nor another media outlet have not confirmed the report, so treat more as speculation until then. However, with Bulger battling broken ribs and the offensive line decimated by injuries, this move makes sense on a lot of levels. The Rams have thrown for over 300 yards in three straight games against the Cardinals, so Frerotte is an intriguing fantasy option this week if you’re desperate.
Mewelde Moore, RB, Pittsburgh SteelersWednesday 10/3, 10:10 AM CT
The Buccaneers have contacted the Vikings regarding the possibility of acquiring Mewelde Moore . The Minneapolis Star-Tribune reports that the Bucs offered the Vikings a sixth-round draft pick in exchange for Moore, but the Vikings declined the offer and are holding out for a first-day pick.

Santana Moss, WR, Washington RedskinsWednesday 10/3, 9:38 AM CT
Santana Moss hasn't tested his strained groin this week, at least not on land. Moss has run in a water tank and had medical personnel check his progress. "He's doing better," director of sports medicine Bubba Tyer tells the Washington Post. "He's trying to get as much rest [by not participating in drills] and we're exercising him... He feels fine doing that. We're taking him day-to- day and will do more tomorrow."
Domenik Hixon, WR, New York GiantsWednesday 10/3, 9:18 AM CT
The Broncos released wide receiver and return man Domenik Hixon on Tuesday. Hixon averaged 22.8 yards per kick return and 4.6 yards per punt return through four games. They signed Brian Clark to take his place.
Eddie Kennison, WR, Wednesday 10/3, 9:13 AM CT
Eddie Kennison will test his right hamstring in practice this week and may be able to take the field in Week 5. "“Eddie is going to practice a little bit more this week. Hopefully, he might be able to participate in the game which would be good for us," head coach Herm Edwards tells the team's official web site. Kennison has been out since straining his hamstring on the first play of Week 1. When he returns, Kennison will start alongside Dwayne Bowe.
Alex Smith, QB, San Francisco 49ersWednesday 10/3, 2:01 AM CT
Alex Smith is seeking a second opinion from Dr. James Andrews after preliminary MRI results indicated he appears to have suffered a serious injury to tendons in his right shoulder in Sunday's game, a team source told ESPN.com. If the diagnosis performed at Stanford is confirmed by Andrews, the source said that it is expected Smith would opt to have corrective surgery immediately even though he would likely miss the rest of the season.
