Nick Folk, K, Dallas CowboysMonday 10/8, 11:39 PM CT
Kicker Nick Folk kicked four field goals, including a 53-yard last-second game winner in the Cowboys 25-24 victory over the Bills on Monday night. Folk originally made the game winner, which was blown dead due to a Bills timeout, then re-nailed it on the second attempt. He also added an extra point.
Trent Edwards, QB, Buffalo BillsMonday 10/8, 11:30 PM CT
Quarterback Trent Edwards started his first nationally televised game on Monday night, and came up completing 23 of his 31 pass attempts for 176 yards and an interception. Edwards managed the game well, but the Bills lost to the Cowboys 25-24.
Jason Witten, TE, Dallas CowboysMonday 10/8, 11:21 PM CT
Tight end Jason Witten turned in another fine evening against the Bills on Monday night, catching nine balls for 103 yards and a 22-yard touchdown. Witten has now brought in 40 receptions in his five games for four touchdowns.
Tony Romo, QB, Dallas CowboysMonday 10/8, 11:11 PM CT
Tony Romo threw five interceptions, including two that were returned for touchdowns, fumbled once, but still led the Cowboys to a 25-24 victory over the Buffalo Bills. Romo also did throw for 309 yards, two touchdown passes, and led a last second drive to the 35-yard line, where Nick Folk hit a 53-yard field goal to win the game.
Tarvaris Jackson, QB, Minnesota VikingsMonday 10/8, 8:06 PM CT
Quarterback Tarvaris Jackson is expected to start for the Vikings on Sunday against the Bears. Jackson had been injured in Week 2 against the Lions, and had been sidelined for the last two games with a groin injury. Kelly Holcombe had started in his place, but was less than magnificent. Head Coach Brad Childress has not officially declared Jackson the starter, but did say that Jackson was taking a lot more reps in practice.
Deion Branch, WR, Seattle SeahawksMonday 10/8, 7:28 PM CT
Seahawks coach Mike Holmgren told the media today that wide receiver Deion Branch will be out for at least two weeks with a sprained foot. Branch sprained the foot during the Steelers game on Sunday, he did not return to that game. Bobby Engram probably gains the most from this news, and he could be available in many medium and deeper leagues.
Mack Strong, RB, Seattle SeahawksMonday 10/8, 7:15 PM CT
Seahawks fullback Mack Strong is done for the season, and possibly his career, as he suffered a pinched nerve in his neck resulting from a hit in the Steelers game on Sunday. Strong woke up Sunday evening with tingling sensations in his arms and hands, and after an examination on Monday, it was revealed he had a pinched nerve. Strong has spent all 15 of his professional seasons in Seattle.
Wayne Gandy, T, Atlanta FalconsMonday 10/8, 3:59 PM CT
The Falcons offensive line took a major hit when starting left tackle Wayne Gandy suffered a torn ACL in his left knee during Sunday’s loss to the Titans. The 14-year veteran is scheduled to undergo surgery once the swelling subsides, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Renardo Foster is slated to replace Gandy in the starting lineup.
Joey Harrington, QB, New Orleans SaintsMonday 10/8, 3:55 PM CT
The starting job belongs to Joey Harrington for at least one more week. Head coach Bobby Petrino announced to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution on Monday that Harrington will start in Week 6 against the Giants despite the fact that Byron Leftwich finished the Week 5 game against the Titans.
Tom Nalen, C, Denver BroncosMonday 10/8, 3:42 PM CT
Tom Nalen tore his biceps muscle in Week 5 and will miss the rest of the season, head coach Mike Shanahan informs the team's official web site. Nalen has been with the Broncos since 1994, started 188 games, and appeared in five Pro Bowls. His injury requires four months of rehab.
Nate Jackson, TE, Denver BroncosMonday 10/8, 3:34 PM CT
Nate Jackson will miss the rest of the season after tearing his groin in Week 5, head coach Mike Shanahan tells the team's official web site.
Josh McCown, QB, Carolina PanthersMonday 10/8, 3:25 PM CT
Josh McCown did not practice on Monday, and it sounds like he is not expected to regain his starting job in Week 6, the Sacramento Bee reports. McCown's main injury is a fractured toe in his left foot. He has also been dealing with a sprained right foot and a chipped bone in his right index finger. Daunte Culpepper started in Week 4.
Brian Westbrook, RB, Philadelphia EaglesMonday 10/8, 3:22 PM CT
Brian Westbrook took part in some of practice on Monday, but the level of participation is unknown because the session was closed to the public. "I'm doing everything I can to get ready and get out there on the field," Westbrook tells the team's official web site. "For me, that's the most important thing -- do everything I can and when we get to that game on Sunday make a decision." Westbrook missed Week 4 due to an abdominal strain that he called a "muscle tear." The running back adds, "I compare it to a hamstring. It gets a little bit better, a little bit better and hopefully you don't have any setbacks. That's the key." Correll Buckhalter started in his place in Week 4.
LaMont Jordan, RB, New England PatriotsMonday 10/8, 3:17 PM CT
The Raiders returned to practice on Monday, and LaMont Jordan was stuck on the sidelines, the Sacramento Bee notes. Jordan injured his back in Week 4. The Raiders were on bye in Week 5.
Michael Pittman, RB, Denver BroncosMonday 10/8, 1:21 PM CT
Michael Pittman will miss six-to-eight weeks after severely spraining his right ankle on Sunday, head coach Jon Gruden tells the Tampa Tribune. Reports and sources previously suggested that Pittman may have a crack in his fibula. Either way, Pittman is now on the sidelines alongside Cadillac Williams and Mike Alstott. Earnest Graham and Kenneth Darby are the only two healthy runners left on the Bucs roster.
Jake Delhomme, QB, Carolina PanthersMonday 10/8, 12:54 PM CT
The season is over for Jake Delhomme. The Panthers quarterback will undergo season ending elbow surgery sometime next week. He has missed the last two games with the elbow injury.
Travis Henry, RB, Monday 10/8, 9:07 AM CT
Travis Henry could be with the Broncos for a while longer. The Denver Post reports that since Henry's suit is in federal court in New York and since Henry may be able to appeal a ruling, the running back could buy himself another four or five weeks. Henry is due to take a polygraph test and attend a scheduled hearing this week, a source confirms. He is subject to a one-year suspension if it's proven that he tested positive for marijuana. The Rocky Mountain News also noted that it could be a month before Henry knows his fate.
Damon Huard, QB, Kansas City ChiefsMonday 10/8, 8:36 AM CT
Damon Huard was knocked out of Sunday's game with a shoulder injury. While the Chiefs had no exact details on the nature of the injury, Huard already has been ruled out for Week 6, according to the KC Star. Brodie Croyle will be the starter for the Chiefs when they face the Bengals this week and will have a chance to claim the job going forward.
Michael Pittman, RB, Denver BroncosMonday 10/8, 8:30 AM CT
It appears that Michael Pittman has more than just an ankle sprain. Sources said that Pittman fractured his fibula during Sunday's game, according to the Tampa Tribune. Such an injury likely will cost him 3-4 weeks of action, so look for Earnest Graham to handle the bulk of action in the Bucs' backfield for now.
Matt Leinart, QB, Arizona CardinalsMonday 10/8, 8:03 AM CT
Matt Leinart has been diagnosed with a fractured collarbone, and injury sustained during Sunday's game. He's expected to miss at least several weeks, if not the rest of the season, according to the Arizona Republic. Kurt Warner will be behind center until Leinart is available again, though you have to wonder how long the frail veteran will be able to stay healthy.
Wayne Gandy, T, Atlanta FalconsMonday 10/8, 7:57 AM CT
Wayne Gandy suffered what appears to be a serious knee injury on Sunday. "I'm very concerned about Wayne," coach Bobby Petrino said, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. "It didn't look good." More should be known about the injury after he's re-examined on Monday, but it could cost him his season and possibly his career.
Alex Smith, QB, San Francisco 49ersMonday 10/8, 7:32 AM CT
Alex Smith was able to toss a ball lightly on the sideline Sunday from about 8-12 yards. Although that's a good sign, coach Mike Nolan said that Smith "from a medical standpoint" is questionable for their next game, according to the Contra Costa Times. The Niners have a bye this week, so Smith will have extra time to recover before they face the Giants in Week 7. If Smith isn't ready by then, Trent Dilfer will be under center again.
Jamal Lewis, RB, Cleveland BrownsMonday 10/8, 7:22 AM CT
Jamal Lewis injured his right foot on the Browns' first play from scrimmage Sunday. X-rays were negative, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer. "It happened at the beginning of the run," said Lewis. "I kind of caught my foot in the turf. I thought I'd be able to go back in, but they didn't want me to do something crazy and miss the rest of the season." An MRI Monday should give us a better idea of his status for the Browns' next game, but Jason Wright should get the bulk of carries if Lewis misses the contest.
Chad Pennington, QB, Miami DolphinsMonday 10/8, 7:17 AM CT
Chad Pennington totalled 229 yards passing Sunday but countered his lone touchdown with three interceptions and a tough loss to the Giants. Nonetheless, coach Eric Mangini isn't ready to give up on Pennington. "Chad is the starting quarterback," said Mangini, according to the New York Daily News. You can safely expect the New York media and Jets fans to cry for Kellen Clemens to take over, but it appears they'll have to wait a while longer before that occurs.
Champ Bailey, CB, Denver BroncosMonday 10/8, 6:38 AM CT
Champ Bailey was forced out of Sunday's game in the third quarter with a left quadriceps injury. "Right now, it feels pretty good," Bailey said told the Denver Post. "But you have to see with a quad. If I had to play a game right now, I don't know if I could. I can really use this bye week and hopefully, in two weeks, I can come back." The Broncos were smoked 41-3 by the Broncos, and the loss of Bailey didn't help any. We should know more about the injury after he's examined further Monday, but he'll have a couple of weeks to rest during their bye.
Tom Nalen, C, Denver BroncosMonday 10/8, 6:34 AM CT
Tom Nalen was able to complete Sunday's game, but the Broncos are concerned that he suffered a serious biceps injury late in the contest. "I want to know the definitive answer before I say anything about it," Nalen said, according to the Denver Post. The Broncos center the past 14 years will undergo an MRI Monday to determine the severity of the injury, but losing him for any games would be a tough hit to the Broncos offense.
Kris Brown, K, Houston TexansMonday 10/8, 6:23 AM CT
Kris Brown had a monster performance for a fantasy kicker on Sunday, knocking in five field goals. Brown had been bothered by soreness in the heel of his plant foot and aggravated the injury on the opening kickoff. He needed a painkilling shot at halftime to deal with the injury, according to the Houston Chronicle. Brown ended up hitting three field goals over 50 yards, including a 57-yard game-winner, as well as a 43-yarder and a 20-yarder. You'll want to check on his condition as we get closer to the Texans next game against the Jags.
