Chris Simms, QB, Tennessee TitansWednesday 10/10, 10:35 PM CT
Quarterback Chris Simms didn’t take one snap this season, and wasn’t even active for a game, but has been placed on injured reserve. Last season, Simms had to have his spleen removed in emergency surgery after taking a hit during a game against the Carolina Panthers. Bucs general manager Bruce Allen said, “He’s not at full strength, and we don’t anticipate he’ll be at full strength until the offseason.”
Fred McCrary, RB, Seattle SeahawksWednesday 10/10, 9:27 PM CT
Fred McCrary has been added to the Seattle Seahawks roster to replace the injured Mack Strong at fullback. Strong was placed on injured reserve on Monday, and needed a replacement as he was the only fullback on the roster. McCrary spent time with Atlanta last season.
Chad Pennington, QB, Miami DolphinsWednesday 10/10, 8:26 PM CT
Quarterback Chad Pennington may be down to his last start in New York. Not only that the Jets QB has been listed as questionable with a lingering ankle injury. Backup Kellen Clemens has looked solid in relief this season, and many Jets fans have been calling for the second-year signal caller to replace Pennington.
Dante Hall, WR, St. Louis RamsWednesday 10/10, 8:18 PM CT
Kick and punt return specialist Dante Hall is expected to miss Sunday’s game against the Ravens with an ankle injury. Hall returned a kickoff for a touchdown against the Cowboys two weeks ago.
Isaac Bruce, WR, San Francisco 49ersWednesday 10/10, 8:17 PM CT
Wide receiver Isaac Bruce will most likely miss his second straight game due to a hamstring injury. The St. Louis Post Dispatch is reporting that he will not play and Drew Bennett will start opposite Torry Holt.
Olindo Mare, K, Seattle SeahawksWednesday 10/10, 8:03 PM CT
Kicker Olindo Mare may be out of a job soon. The Saints kicker is suffering from a sore groin which played a part in him having a 20-yard field goal blocked and him missing a 54-yard field goal that would have given the Saints the lead in their last game against the Panthers. The 0-4 Saints eventually lost the game 16-13. Some kickers who have been seen working out in New Orleans camp include Mike Vanderjagt, Martin Gramatica, Billy Cundiff and former Tulane kicker Seth Marler.
Chad Johnson, WR, Cincinnati BengalsWednesday 10/10, 7:48 PM CT
Chad Johnson has been the one bright spot on the Bengals injury report, as he fully participated in practice on Wednesday, after wearing a boot on his left foot all last week. The protective boot was worn to help immobilize his sprained left ankle.
Willie Anderson, T, Baltimore RavensWednesday 10/10, 7:42 PM CT
Right tackle Willie Anderson has been declared “out” for the Cincinnati Bengals this weekend for their game against the Kansas City Chiefs. Anderson’s consecutive starts streak of 116 games will also end while he watches from the sidelines at Arrowhead Stadium.
Trent Green, QB, St. Louis RamsWednesday 10/10, 7:19 PM CT
Quarterback Trent Green was in Kansas City today having his latest concussion evaluated by the same doctors that he dealt with while he was recovering from a similar injury last season. Dolphins coach Cam Cameron said, “He went through some tests this morning, and he told me it’s very encouraging. He’s really upbeat, that’s what makes those guys who they are—they’re competitors. They can’t imagine not playing. With that being said, we’ve got to let this thing play out.”
L.J. Smith, TE, Philadelphia EaglesWednesday 10/10, 3:58 PM CT
L.J. Smith practiced fully on Wednesday, according to the team's official report. "We'll just see how he does. Again, he feels pretty good," head coach Andy Reid tells the official web site prior to practice. Smith has been out since undergoing surgery on September 21 to clean out scar tissue around his groin.
Laveranues Coles, WR, New York JetsWednesday 10/10, 3:56 PM CT
Laveranues Coles was listed as having limited participation in the Jets' Wednesday practice. According to the team's official injury report, he has some sort of knee injury. Laveranues is legendary for playing through bumps and bruises, so don't expect this to hamper him on Sunday against the Eagles.
Laurence Maroney, RB, New England PatriotsWednesday 10/10, 3:48 PM CT
Laurence Maroney was once again listed as a limited participant at practice on the Patriots first injury report of the week. He continues to battle a groin injury suffered sometime during or after the Patriots' Week 3 win over the Bills.
Damon Huard, QB, Kansas City ChiefsWednesday 10/10, 3:45 PM CT
Damon Huard has been named the starting quarterback for Sunday's game against the Bengals, the Kansas City Star reports. His status was in question due to a sore right shoulder.
Brian Westbrook, RB, Philadelphia EaglesWednesday 10/10, 3:34 PM CT
Brian Westbrook practiced fully on Wednesday, according to the team's official report. He missed Week 4 due to an abdominal strain. "I feel a lot better than the bye week," Westbrook tells the team's official web site prior to practice. "This is an injury that takes time to heal. It's been healing over time, and hopefully it'll continue to do that."
Rudi Johnson, RB, Detroit LionsWednesday 10/10, 3:07 PM CT
Rudi Johnson was not in uniform at the beginning of Wednesday's practice, according to the Bengals' official web site. He missed the team's previous game, a week four loss to the Patriots, with a hamstring injury. Johnson owners were hoping to get their star runner back this week, but at present his status is still up in the air. Those playing backup running back bingo should hold their cards, especially if they have Kenny Watson on their roster.
Todd Heap, TE, Baltimore RavensWednesday 10/10, 3:06 PM CT
Todd Heap was back at practice Wednesday after missing last week's win over the 49ers with a strained hamstring. So much for the run of Quinn Sypniewski as a fantasy factor.
Jamal Lewis, RB, Cleveland BrownsWednesday 10/10, 3:05 PM CT
Jamal Lewis, who left the Browns' week five loss to the Patriots after one carry, is wearing a protective boot on his strained left foot. "He's working to get back," head coach Romeo Crennel told the Browns' official web site. "If he can play, he's going to play. We'll take it day to day, and we'll see how it does. Probably later in the week we'll know more." With Lewis in a boot, Jason Wright is in line to receive the bulk of the carries for the Browns in this week's matchup with the Dolphins, who are allowing 174 rushing yards per game.
Zack Crockett, RB, Wednesday 10/10, 1:35 PM CT
The Buccaneers have inked a deal with running back Zack Crockett, who had spent the last eight seasons with another pirate-themed team, the Raiders. Terms of the deal have not yet been disclosed. The Bucs are desperately looking for running back depth and anyone better than Crockett would have had to come from another team, costing Tampa draft picks. There is no fantasy value for Crockett right now, but we’ll keep on eye on him to see how the Bucs employ him.
Todd Weiner, T, Atlanta FalconsWednesday 10/10, 1:22 PM CT
The Falcons will be without starting tackle Todd Weiner for the next two-to-six weeks because of arthroscopic surgery on his right knee, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. This news comes at an especially bad time for the Falcons, who just lost fellow starting tackle Wayne Gandy for the season and will face the Giants’ talented pass rush this Monday.
Isaac Bruce, WR, San Francisco 49ersWednesday 10/10, 1:06 PM CT
Rams wideout Isaac Bruce is expected to miss his second straight game this weekend against the Ravens because of a hamstring injury, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Bruce will be replaced by Drew Bennett, who scored last week and had his best yardage day of last season (115 yards) against the Ravens when he was still with the Titans.
Kevin Faulk, RB, New England PatriotsWednesday 10/10, 1:05 PM CT
Kevin Faulk , who was forced out of last Sunday's game early with an unidentified leg injury, avoided serious injury and isn't expected to miss any time. "I had a little scare," he told the Boston Globe. "I'm good, healthy enough to play, so that's what it will be."
Marcellus Rivers, TE, New England PatriotsWednesday 10/10, 11:00 AM CT
The Patriots re-signed tight end Marcellus Rivers on Tuesday, releasing linebacker Chad Brown to make room on the 53-man roster. Rivers will serve as the team's third tight end.
Vinny Testaverde, QB, Wednesday 10/10, 10:42 AM CT
The Panthers have signed quarterback Vinny Testaverde to a contract that will be finalized if he passes a physical Wednesday morning, according to the Charlotte Observer. As long as the doctors don't test for osteoporosis, Testaverde should be fine. David Carr is locked in as the Panthers starter, but Vinny will be his primary backup once he gets up to speed on the playbook.
Darrion Scott, DE, Minnesota VikingsWednesday 10/10, 10:36 AM CT
The Vikings placed Darrion Scott on injured reserve Tuesday due to the broken left foot he suffered during practice the day before, according to the Minneapolis Star Tribune. He led the team with 5.5 sacks last season, but did not record a sack this year.
Darwin Walker, DT, Carolina PanthersWednesday 10/10, 10:22 AM CT
A sprained left knee will most likely prevent Darwin Walker from playing on Sunday against the Vikings, according to the Chicago Tribune. He is expected to return in Week 7 for a meeting with the Eagles.
J.P. Losman, QB, Buffalo BillsWednesday 10/10, 10:14 AM CT
The Bills won't make a decision on the status of J.P. Losman until after their Week 6 bye. According to the Rochester Democrat & Chronicle, head coach Dick Jauron wouldn't comment on Losman's injury status, nor on mounting speculation that rookie Trent Edwards might hold on to the starting job. Receiver Lee Evans is backing Losman, however. "Take it with a grain of salt, but when J.P. is healthy, it's still his position to lose. I think J.P. has played well given the circumstances he's had," said Evans. "If they make that change, they make that change, but in my opinion it's J.P.'s job."
Damon Huard, QB, Kansas City ChiefsWednesday 10/10, 8:29 AM CT
Damon Huard will test his sore right shoulder in practice on Wednesday, and he may be able to start in Week 6. “He feels a lot better,” head coach Herm Edwards tells the Kansas City Star. “He’s worked out the last two days, and he felt OK (Tuesday). But he hasn’t thrown." Huard bruised the shoulder in Week 5. An MRI showed no long-term damage. Brodie Croyle would start if Huard were unable to go against the Bengals.
Champ Bailey, CB, Denver BroncosWednesday 10/10, 8:23 AM CT
Champ Bailey didn't practice on Tuesday and likely won't practice on Wednesday, but he doesn't expect his sore left quad to keep him down long. Bailey tells the Denver Post that he probably could play if the Broncos had a game this Sunday. He expects to play when the team faces the Steelers in Week 7.
Javon Walker, WR, Oakland RaidersWednesday 10/10, 8:19 AM CT
Javon Walker did not practice on Tuesday, but he expects to return when the club faces the Steelers in Week 7, the Denver Post reports. Walker has missed the last two games due to fluid in his right knee. The Broncos are on bye in Week 6.
L.J. Smith, TE, Philadelphia EaglesWednesday 10/10, 8:11 AM CT
L.J. Smith will test himself in practice this week, but he does not know if he'll be able to play on Sunday against the Jets. He has missed the last two games after undergoing surgery on September 21 to clean out some scar tissue around his groin. "I'm going to push myself [this week] and see how I feel," Smith tells the Philadelphia Inquirer.
Terrell Owens, WR, Dallas CowboysWednesday 10/10, 7:58 AM CT
Terrell Owens suffered a hip contusion during Monday's win over the Bills, the team's official web site reports. The issue is not major. Owens finished the game.
Devery Henderson, WR, New Orleans SaintsWednesday 10/10, 6:33 AM CT
It's possible Devery Henderson will lose his starting spot after dropping a handful of passes in the loss to Carolina. Henderson has just eight catches for 146 yards in four games this year. Lance Moore has some sleeper value if Henderson does in fact start getting significantly less reps.
Eddie Kennison, WR, Wednesday 10/10, 6:30 AM CT
Eddie Kennison re-injured his hamstring last week and will probably need to sit out against Cincinnati Sunday, according to head coach Herm Edwards. The Chiefs will probably try to focus on the running game - Cincinnati's front seven has been a mess all year - but when Brodie Croyle is asked to pass, look for Dwayne Bowe and Tony Gonzalez to be the first two reads.
Steven Jackson, RB, St. Louis RamsWednesday 10/10, 6:28 AM CT
Steven Jackson has already been ruled out for Week 6 as he continues to deal with his partially torn groin muscle. Brian Leonard will start in his place, and likely struggle against the Baltimore rushing defense.
Ahman Green, RB, Houston TexansWednesday 10/10, 6:25 AM CT
Gary Kubiak feels Ahman Green (knee) has an excellent chance to play against Jacksonville Sunday. Green has missed the last two games for the Texans. Ron Dayne hasn't been much of a producer with Green on the bench, so the Houston offense surely can't wait to get its featured runner back. Heads up, though - the Jacksonville front seven looked nasty again during last week's shutdown of Larry Johnson.
