Chris Chambers, WR, San Diego ChargersWednesday 10/17, 10:37 PM CT
New Charger Chris Chambers spent his first day with the team getting to know quarterback Phillip Rivers and the small differences between the Dolphins playbook. "I could pretty much just step right into the huddle and play a game," said Chambers. "I'm game ready." Chambers has the advantage of the Chargers' Week 7 bye to have an additional seven days to learn the playbook and routes.
Alex Smith, QB, San Francisco 49ersWednesday 10/17, 10:36 PM CT
Quarterback Alex Smith participated in individual drills on Wednesday, but acknowledged that he would need extensive practice time on Thursday and Friday in order to be ready to start on Sunday against the Giants. Trent Dilfer has continued to take the first team snaps at this point.
Vince Young, QB, Tennessee TitansWednesday 10/17, 10:35 PM CT
Quarterback Vince Young missed another practice on Wednesday, and is unlikely to practice for the rest of the week. His status for Sunday's game in Young's hometown of Houston is up in the air at this point. "It's day to day right now. I can't just tell you I'm playing then don't play," Young said. "It's like lying not only to my teammates but all the people in the world that want to see me as well."
Richard Seymour, DE, New England PatriotsWednesday 10/17, 10:35 PM CT
Defensive end Richard Seymour and receiver Troy Brown have not returned to practice for the New England Patriots. They were eligible to participate on Wednesday after starting the season on the physically unable to perform list. Both players are recovering from knee injuries.
Troy Brown, WR, New England PatriotsWednesday 10/17, 10:34 PM CT
Defensive end Richard Seymour and receiver Troy Brown have not returned to practice for the New England Patriots. They were eligible to participate on Wednesday after starting the season on the physically unable to perform list. Both players are recovering from knee injuries.
Kevin Walter, WR, Houston TexansWednesday 10/17, 10:33 PM CT
Texans coach Gary Kubiak is encouraged by the play of Kevin Walter since the injury bug hit their receiving corps. "He was ready for his opportunity, got a chance to play…and here's a kid who's taken full advantage," Kubiak said. Walter had a breakout day against the Jaguars last weekend catching 12 balls for 160 yards.
Byron Leftwich, QB, Pittsburgh SteelersWednesday 10/17, 5:50 PM CT
The Falcons have officially benched Joey Harrington and promoted Byron Leftwich to the top of the depth chart, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Fantasy owners shouldn’t be very excited about this change because Leftwich’s value is no different than what Harrington’s would be if he was still the starter. The entire Falcons offense remains a fantasy mess.
L.J. Smith, TE, Philadelphia EaglesWednesday 10/17, 1:15 PM CT
L.J. Smith did not practice on Wednesday due to soreness in his groin, the team's official web site reports. Smith played a limited role in Week 6 and is still recovering from his surgery on September 21. Fantasy owners should not be using him at this point.
Adrian Peterson, RB, Minnesota VikingsWednesday 10/17, 11:11 AM CT
Adrian Peterson may lead the league in rushing yards, but he’s not even the top running back on his team’s depth chart. “Yeah, he’s a number two,” head coach Brad Childress told Wednesday’s Minneapolis Star Tribune. “That’s how he is. It doesn’t bother him, it doesn’t bother me.” Chester Taylor remains listed at the top of the Vikings depth chart.
Koren Robinson, WR, Seattle SeahawksWednesday 10/17, 11:08 AM CT
NFL commissioner Roger Goodell has reinstated Koren Robinson , who served a one-year suspension for violating the league’s substance abuse policy, according to ESPN.com. Robinson served three months in jail this summer for violating probation.
Kenneth Darby, RB, St. Louis RamsWednesday 10/17, 10:53 AM CT
The Buccaneers have signed rookie Kenneth Darby to their practice squad. Tampa likes Darby’s potential, but the fact they don’t want him on the active roster despite all the running back injuries they’ve suffered means he’s got a long way to go.
Roy Williams, WR, Dallas CowboysWednesday 10/17, 10:37 AM CT
Roy Williams spent Tuesday moonlighting on his full-time job. While the rest of his teammates enjoyed an off day, Williams went to work for Pizza Hut as a delivery man to make up for failing to tip drivers who delivered his food, according to the Detroit Free Press.
Trent Edwards, QB, Buffalo BillsWednesday 10/17, 10:33 AM CT
It's official: Trent Edwards will remain the Bills starting quarterback. Several team sources confirmed to the Buffalo News that Edwards will get the nod over J.P. Losman in Week 7 against the Ravens.
Dan Morgan, LB, Wednesday 10/17, 10:24 AM CT
Panthers head coach John Fox would not say that Dan Morgan will be the team’s starting middle linebacker when he returns from his partially torn Achilles. "We'll just kind of evaluate that when those things arise," Fox told the Gaston Gazette. "It's good to have some competition within your own team, and we'll put the guy in there that we think gives us the best chance." Rookie Jon Beason has played the middle with Morgan out. Carolina would be wise to look to the future and keep Beason in the starting lineup, but Fox is notorious for sticking with his veterans even if they are no longer the best option.
Travis Taylor, WR, Wednesday 10/17, 10:09 AM CT
The Rams added some receiver depth Wednesday when they signed free agent receiver Travis Taylor to a contract. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports Taylor, who led the Vikings with 57 catches for 651 yards last season, is expected to begin practicing today.

Nick Hardwick, C, San Diego ChargersWednesday 10/17, 9:50 AM CT
Nick Hardwick received some good news on Tuesday. The Pro Bowler will only need to miss three-to-four weeks after spraining his right foot in Week 6, the North County Times reports. Hardwick had been worried about the injury being more significant. Cory Withrow will start in his place. The Chargers are on bye in Week 7.
Eric Parker, WR, San Diego ChargersWednesday 10/17, 9:44 AM CT
Eric Parker learned on Tuesday that he still needs more time to allow his foot to heal. Parker underwent surgery on August 3 to repair a cracked sesamoid bone near his right big toe. The team did not provide specifics on how much more time Parker might need, the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Kevan Barlow, RB, Wednesday 10/17, 9:31 AM CT
Kevan Barlow was in New England on Monday for a tryout with the Patriots, reports the Boston Globe. It sounds like the Patriots are going to be without Sammy Morris for up to a month because of a chest/rib injury, and with Laurence Maroney continuing to nurse a sore groin the team is looking for warm bodies for their backfield. After being cut by three different teams in the last two years, Barlow is only lukewarm, and it's unclear if the Patriots will even make him a contract offer.
Vernon Davis, TE, San Francisco 49ersWednesday 10/17, 2:02 AM CT

Andre Johnson, WR, Houston TexansWednesday 10/17, 1:36 AM CT
Andre Johnson (knee) may be able to return for Sundau's game with Tennessee, according to the Texans official website. "He's progressing well; (we're) very, very hopeful that he's ready to go this week," head coach Gary Kubiak said. "We'll run him (Wednesday). We liked the progress we saw last week, so we've just kind of got our fingers crossed that he's ready to go this week." Take these words with a grain of salt, as the timetable for Johnson's return has floated all over the map in recent weeks.
