Ahmad Brooks, LB, San Francisco 49ersWednesday 11/7, 9:03 PM CT
The Cincinnati Bengals defense has had a down year to say the least, and now the season of starting middle linebacker Ahmad Brooks is over. Brooks was placed on injured reserve on Wednesday, and will have surgery on his torn groin muscle soon. Brooks was hurt in the Week 2 loss to Cleveland, and has not played since.
Vinny Testaverde, QB, Wednesday 11/7, 8:53 PM CT
With David Carr yet to be cleared to play by medical staff, Vinny Testaverde has moved back to the top of the depth chart. Testaverde took most of the snaps in practice on Wednesday, and at this point is expected to start. Rookie Matt Moore has taken some snaps with the first team as well, in case Testaverde’s sore Achilles’ tendon flares up.
Sean Considine, S, Philadelphia EaglesWednesday 11/7, 8:45 PM CT
Strong safety Sean Considine was placed on injured reserve on Wednesday, ending his season for the Eagles. Considine injured his left shoulder during the loss to the Cowboys on Sunday. Quintin Mikell, who filled in for Brian Dawkins when he was injured earlier this year, will start in Considine’s place.
Chris Henry, WR, Cincinnati BengalsWednesday 11/7, 8:38 PM CT
Bengals' wide receiver Chris Henry just came off of his eight-game suspension for violating the NFL's personal conduct policy, so naturally it was time to cause a bit of trouble. Henry was allegedly involved in an altercation with a parking attendant over a disputed parking fee, on Tuesday night. Said parking attendant told police that Henry and another man parked their sport utility vehicle without paying. According to an incident report, the attendant said Henry argued loudly with him and said, "Don't you know who I am?" The attendant told police that Henry threw a $5 bill on the ground, but it was returned to him and police were called. At this time no charges have been filed.
Chris Henry, RB, Tennessee TitansWednesday 11/7, 7:39 PM CT
Titans' rookie running back Chris Henry has appealed his four-game suspension for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy. This move keeps Henry available for this weekend’s game against the Jaguars.
Brooks Bollinger, QB, Dallas CowboysWednesday 11/7, 7:30 PM CT
Vikings quarterback Brooks Bollinger looks as if he might get his first start on Sunday in Green Bay. Starter Tarvaris Jackson suffered a concussion last week against the Chargers and has been slow to recover. Bollinger filled in as a backup and played quite well, throwing a 40-yard touchdown pass to Sidney Rice, in the Vikes 35-17 win over San Diego.
Reggie Bush, RB, New Orleans SaintsWednesday 11/7, 7:20 PM CT
Saints running back Reggie Bush spent Wednesday’s practice on the sidelines with a wrapped left knee. According to Bush he just “banged it up” during last week’s win over Jacksonville. He expects to play on Sunday against the Rams.
Ben Roethlisberger, QB, Pittsburgh SteelersWednesday 11/7, 11:24 AM CT
Ben Roethlisberger suffered a bruised right hip in Monday night’s win over the Ravens, but Steelers coach Mike Tomlin told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette that he should be ready to play Sunday.
Chris Perry, RB, Cincinnati BengalsWednesday 11/7, 11:13 AM CT
Chris Perry, on the PUP list while recovering from an ankle injury, was cleared for practice Tuesday, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. The Bengals now have a three-week window in which Perry does not count against their roster to determine if he can help them yet this season.
Todd Heap, TE, Baltimore RavensWednesday 11/7, 11:08 AM CT
Todd Heap has “rounded the corner” with his hamstring injury, Ravens coach Brian Billick said on his weekly radio show, and the team is optimistic about his return for this Sunday’s game. Heap has missed three of the Ravens’ last four games because of his troublesome hamstring.
Matt Schaub, QB, Houston TexansWednesday 11/7, 10:53 AM CT
Matt Schaub , held out of the Texans’ Week 9 win because of a concussion, practiced Tuesday and should return to the starting lineup when Houston comes off its bye week. “He took his reps, and he looked good,” head coach Gary Kubiak told the Houston Chronicle. “We’ll just continue to monitor him day-to-day in making sure he looks like the guy that was out there playing before he went a couple of weeks taking those shots. Today was a step in the right direction.”
Ronyell Whitaker, CB, Detroit LionsWednesday 11/7, 10:51 AM CT
The Vikings released Ronyell Whitaker on Tuesday, according to the Minneapolis Star Tribune. The move was made to create a roster spot for Koy Detmer.
Calvin Pace, LB, New York JetsWednesday 11/7, 10:38 AM CT
The Cardinals have begun preliminary talks with linebacker Calvin Pace about a contract extension, according to the Arizona Republic. Don’t expect to see anything done until the offseason, but it would be wise for the Cards to lock Pace up to a new deal before the start of the 2008 season.
Jonathan Vilma, LB, New Orleans SaintsWednesday 11/7, 10:15 AM CT
While coach Eric Mangini announced Tuesday that Jonathan Vilma will undergo surgery on his injured knee, he wouldn't speculate on when the linebacker will return to the playing field. An orthopedic surgeon tells Newsday, however, that he believes the injury to be very serious. Dr. Johnny Benjamin said that Vilma would likely have only needed a couple of weeks of recovery time if his surgery was to clean out bone fragments in the knee, and the fact that the team placed him on injured reserve already is not a good sign. He went on to say that the injury could require microfracture surgery or the insertion of a bio-absorbable screw in the knee. "Athletes who have those do quite well," he said, "but it takes about a year to fully rehab from it and usually it's not until the second year that they're back to their old self."
Chad Jackson, WR, Wednesday 11/7, 10:05 AM CT
The Patriots released tight end Marcellus Rivers on Tuesday, and are likely to fill the opening on the 53-man roster with wide receiver Chad Jackson , reports the Boston Globe. Jackson, who began the season on the physically unable to perform list, started practicing again three weeks ago, so the Pats have to make a move to put him on the active roster or shut him down for the season. He's recovering from a torn ACL suffered late last season and is highly unlikely to see significant action behind the All-World receivers lined up ahead of him on the depth chart.
Eddie Kennison, WR, St. Louis RamsWednesday 11/7, 9:53 AM CT
Chiefs wide receivers Eddie Kennison and Dwayne Bowe are both expected to be available for Week 10, the Kansas City Star reports. Kennison has been dealing with a hamstring injury since the season opener, and Bowe tweaked his hamstring this past Sunday.
David Garrard, QB, Jacksonville JaguarsWednesday 11/7, 7:29 AM CT
Jack Del Rio is cautiously optimisitc that David Garrard (high ankle sprain) will be ready to play this week, the Orlando Sentinel reports. "I don't have to make a decision until Sunday, but I expect him to play," Del Rio said.
