Aaron Smith, DE, Pittsburgh SteelersTuesday 12/11, 10:11 PM CT
Aaron Smith has been ruled out for the rest of the season after he tore a biceps muscle during Sunday's loss to New England. He attempted to play through the injury, which ultimately just made it worse. "Being the guy he is, he continued on," coach Mike Tomlin said in the AP. "He came out a few times, and that was worrisome because this guy doesn't come out of games."
Johnny Jolly, DT, Green Bay PackersTuesday 12/11, 10:08 PM CT
The Packers placed Johnny Jolly on IR Tuesday due to an injured shoulder. Jolly was hurt in Week 11 against Carolina.
Michael Vick, QB, Tuesday 12/11, 8:39 PM CT
Bobby Petrino has bolted on the Falcons. The former Louisville head coach abruptly resigned from his head coaching position on Tuesday less than a year after he signed a five-year contract with the team. ESPN.com reports that his resignation is immediate and that he will not coach the team during its final three games. Petrino is expected to return to the college ranks as the head coach at Arkansas.
Marc Bulger, QB, St. Louis RamsTuesday 12/11, 12:53 PM CT
Rams quarterback Marc Bulger is feeling better and is expected to try to practice on Wednesday, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. He missed last week’s game because of a concussion. Getting Bulger back this week would be a boost for the Rams passing game, but he is a questionable fantasy play even if he is clear because of the Packers strong defense.
Alex Smith, QB, San Francisco 49ersTuesday 12/11, 12:11 PM CT
The 49ers have finally announced that quarterback Alex Smith will undergo season-ending surgery to correct his separated right shoulder. The Sacramento Bee reports it is not yet known when the surgery will be performed. Smith suffered the injury on September 30 and returned after two weeks off, but then began to suffer spasms in the forearm. The handling of this injury has been a point of contention between Smith and the team, and it may be the beginning of the end for his tenure in San Francisco.
Larry Fitzgerald, WR, Arizona CardinalsTuesday 12/11, 11:19 AM CT
Cardinals wideout Larry Fitzgerald was able to play through his groin injury thanks to a girdle that allowed him to push off and make cuts during the game. "I don't know if I could have played without it," Fitzgerald told the Arizona Republic. "I'll probably keep wearing it until I feel a lot better." We’ll spare you the details of Larry’s girdle and how it impacts his groin, but rest assured it appears he’ll be able to play through the injury for the rest of the season.
JaMarcus Russell, QB, Oakland RaidersTuesday 12/11, 11:16 AM CT
JaMarcus Russell won't start in Week 15, but he will see some action against the Colts, the San Jose Mercury News reports.
Lorenzo Neal, RB, Baltimore RavensTuesday 12/11, 11:10 AM CT
The Chargers will be without Lorenzo Neal for the rest of the regular season. Neal underwent surgery on Monday to place a plate in his fracture fibula, the San Diego Union-Tribune reports. Andrew Pinnock will start in his place.
Larry Johnson, RB, Kansas City ChiefsTuesday 12/11, 11:04 AM CT
Larry Johnson (foot) will not play in Week 15, the Kansas City Star reports. Kolby Smith has been starting in his place and should get the call against the Titans.
Anquan Boldin, WR, Arizona CardinalsTuesday 12/11, 11:03 AM CT
Cardinals wideout Anquan Boldin missed last week’s game with a dislocated toe, but he is hopeful that he’ll be back in action Sunday against the Saints. “I am encouraged by the progress we made from Monday through (Sunday), and that's what I wanted to see,” Boldin told the Arizona Republic. Boldin said it was Ken Whisenhunt’s decision to hold him out of the game. Of course, Whisenhunt probably wouldn’t have done that if Anquan was healthy enough to contribute. We’re glad Boldin is optimistic about playing, but we’re not going to get our hopes up until he starts practicing.
L.J. Smith, TE, Philadelphia EaglesTuesday 12/11, 10:55 AM CT
L.J. Smith suffered a right knee injury and a cartilage tear in his ribs in Week 14, head coach Andy Reid tells the Philadelphia Inquirer. "We've just got to see how that goes as we go through this week. It's very sore and has limited motion there, but we'll see how he does," Reid notes.
Correll Buckhalter, RB, Philadelphia EaglesTuesday 12/11, 10:52 AM CT
Correll Buckhalter suffered "a pretty significant" concussion in Week 14, head coach Andy Reid tells the Philadelphia Inquirer.
Devin Hester, WR, Chicago BearsTuesday 12/11, 10:18 AM CT
Vikings head coach Brad Chilress has not decided whether to avoid kicking the ball to Devin Hester in special teams situations. “That remains to be seen,” Childress told the St. Paul Pioneer Press on Monday. “We haven’t even looked at the Bears yet.”
Kenoy Kennedy, S, Detroit LionsTuesday 12/11, 10:10 AM CT
Kenoy Kennedy underwent tests on his injured hamstring on Monday, leaving his status for Sunday’s game against the Chargers in question, according to the Detroit Free Press. He suffered the injury during the Week 14 loss to the Cowboys.
Cleo Lemon, QB, Jacksonville JaguarsTuesday 12/11, 10:04 AM CT
Cam Cameron doesn’t want to rush into a decision regarding his starting quarterback in Week 15, so he’ll assess his options and announce his decision later in the week. “We’ll update you on Wednesday as to where we’ll be with the quarterback situation,” Cameron told the Miami Herald. The world waits with bated breath for Cameron to announce whether the in-over-his-head John Beck or the never-will-be Cleo Lemon will get the start against the Ravens this week. The fantasy implications of this decision are, quite simply, too vast and far-reaching to discuss in just this little paragraph.
Fred Jackson, RB, Buffalo BillsTuesday 12/11, 9:58 AM CT
A day after both Marshawn Lynch and Fred Jackson topped 100 yards in a win over the Dolphins, head coach Dick Jauron said Lynch remains his No. 1 running back, but Jackson will continue to get plenty of work. “Marshawn will probably get a little more, but just a little more,” Jauron told the Bills official website. “It’s one of those deals where you can go with the hot guy. You have a rotation, but if one of them is hotter than the other you just go with them for a while and see where it leads us.”
Darwin Walker, DT, Carolina PanthersTuesday 12/11, 9:52 AM CT
Darwin Walker is nursing a left elbow injury. He told the Chicago Tribune on Monday that he hopes to play through the injury during Monday’s game against the Vikings.
